Neither is Steve Yzerman and Guy Boucher.

The habs world will crumble.

Remember when "the dream" was Pierre Mcguire as GM and Roy as coach?

I don't remember Mcguire really being a favorite here. Team 990 really pushed it hard, though.

And what do we know about how it would have went in reality? Should we go back to see every coach and GM who had success in the NHL to see how PERFECT their Junior career was? Or should we go and see how incredibly succesful some junior coaches were and then fell on their face in the NHL?

Remember when people laughed at the Therrien nomination?

Roy's biggest skill in junior is to use big $$$ to lure high profile players. Coaching wise he is average at best, same as a GM.

Agreed. He's not even on my top 5 Q coaches, that would consist of (without order)

Groulx
Tourigny
Houle
Ducharme
Beausoleil

And Pierre would have traded Galchenyuk and Subban for Yakupov.

If CBC is correct, we're not pursuing any college FAs ?

Seriously? I will always wonder why the heck are we not more present in the US front when we actually made it our priority till the start of Timmins stint with us....We needed at least 1 goalie. And I know we have a couple of guys incoming but there are some interesting players out there. Don't like our passivity....

They talked about the main FAs and Montreal wasn't amongst the teams interested, at least Healy didn't mention them.

I'm just going to guess that Laganière probably wants to go to a team where he has a good chance of making the NHL right away. With the competition we already have at centre right now the Habs isn't going to be that team. That's usually how it works with college FA's anyway.

It's pretty much the same with the goalie, I'm sure he would prefer to go to an organisation where he could at least theoretically have the chance to become a starter in the near future.

I believe that Bergevin was interested in signing D Dan Dekeyser and maybe wishful thinking on my part, but he had interest in Quebec native Antoine Laganiere LW.As far as College free agent signings, Drew LeBlanc the WCHA/MVP and Frozen Four/MVP signed with Chicago BlackHawks last Friday night after Yale knocked the two-time St.Cloud Captain's team out of the Frozen Four Tournament.I wouldn't be shocked to hear that Laganiere signs with the Habs by Monday night, now that Yale has won the NCAA Title. After watching how Yale's Captain Andrew Miller is capable of playing,it wouldn't be surprising if Bergy signs Miller also, he's gamebreaking forward and all around buzzkill for his opponents.

Laganiere will be a Canuck. He went to their training camp and he's a fan.

Usually college FA's sign with teams that can offer them quick access to the NHL, I doubt MB is willing to guarantee that just to land one.

I wouldn't hold much stock and not PJ, in what the CBC HNIC says about prospects. Healy and Friedman said last night how Hanowski had all the bargaining strength against the Calgary Flames in negotiating his ELC and could hold out for more money because he was one the prospects traded for Ignila. Hanowski had already signed with Calgary the day before HNIC's Hotstove broadcast. Great insight into something that was comopletely wrong and they didn't do any research before opening their mouths. So I don't believe them when they say that Montreal isn't involved in the college FA this year. The Canadiens are quiet about who they are targeting and hold their cards close to the vest.

I don't know about that. With the glut of good young forwards that the Oilers already have, it seems to me that there might be a better opportunity with the Habs. The team is also in the market for bigger forwards given that many of our forwards are smaller than the league average.

It will be an interesting decision by Laganiere.

Somehow the "they didn't contact me all year" doesn't seem like really positive. And frankly, I am really stunned about that. Where is our US force?

From a purely financial standpoint, I never quite understood why kids from here wouldn't jump at the chance to join the habs org. the potential for endorsement deals is insane.

Hopefully it is a management team that keeps on learning and trying to improve rather than one that stubbornly sticks to the same old way of doing things regardless of the results which was the approach Gainey seemed to take.

Quebec taxes are sure to scare anyone who thinks of the "financial standpoint" away.

True, but take your basic contract + commercial ad deals and I'm sure it still amounts to more than just a standard deal in a less taxed place.
