Who has played for the most Original Six expansion teams?

I doubt there is anyone who has played for Philly, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Minnesota, Los Angeles and California/Oakland, but there has to be some players who've played for 4 of those teams or even 5. Of course having a defunct team in there narrows down the parameters but I will allow Cleveland also since they are the Seals relocated, so maybe that will help.

Well this is not as obvious as I thought. You pretty much have to start with the Seals roster. The only one I've found after a quick scan with as many as three teams is Charlie Simmer (Cal, LA and Pitt). Even well-traveled guys like Bobby Sheehan and Gary Smith have only been on two O6 expansionists!

Okay, few more - Bob Stewart (Cal, St.Louis and Pitt) and Bryan Watson (same 3 teams as Stewart)

Gilles Meloche (goalie) played for California, Cleveland, Minnesota, and Pittsburgh. 786 regular season games for those three teams as a starting goalie most of the time and 2 all-star appearances. Dan Bouchard played 655 games for Atlanta, Calgary, Quebec, and Winnipeg, also a goalie....not original expansion teams but still. Dunno if that's the most though.

I found a fiver! Goalie Gary Edwards (Cleveland, St.Louis, Pittsburgh, Minnesota and LA)!!

And a four! Jean Potvin (Barons, Flyers, Kings, N.Stars)

Also Dave Gardner with 3 (Seals, Flyers, Blues), Randy Holt (Flyers, Barons, Kings), Al MacAdam (Flyers, Seals, Northstars), Gilles Meloche (Seals, N. Stars, Penguins).

Gilles Meloche is actually a two-team player, not a four-team player (Seals/Barons/Stars, Pens)

The Barons are the same franchise as the Seals. That's like saying Shane Doan has played for two franchises. Meloche then became a North Star when George and Gordon Gund merged the Barons with the North Stars, as one of the protected players.

Also, a three-team HHOFer:
Larry Murphy (Kings, Stars, Pens)

MacAdam only "truly" counts for two; he stayed with the Seals through the move to Cleveland and the merger with Minnesota. So his time with the North Stars was literally an extension of his time as a Seal.

Another HHOFer:
Paul Coffey (Pens, Kings, Flyers)

Plus a couple pretty solid defensemen:
Darryl Sydor (Kings, Stars, Pens, Blues)
Phillipe Boucher (Kings, Stars, Pens)

And one bright-burning short-term scoring winger:
Rob Brown (Pens, Stars, Kings)

yeah, realized that MacAdam and Meloche probably should not have counted if they played for Minnesota AFTER Cleveland folded... but I still don't consider Minnesota a continuation of the Seals/Barons franchise.

Also, I wasn't counting them playing for the Seals and Barons as two teams, only one team since it was the same franchise.

I know your love for the eminent Mr. Frig, but that only counts as two teams.

How can you not consider it a continuation if they were among the players on the protected list when the Barons were merged with the North Stars? I would count it separately if they had signed as a free agent, but they never left the team they played for. In fact, had MacAdam played three more years he might have even been a Shark; completing the loop from California/Oakland to San Jose.

If we consider the 1990 "split" of the Minnesota franchise as separating the Seals and Stars, and thus consider the Sharks as "legitimate heirs", claiming all San Jose to be fair game (save for those claimed in the dispersal draft) then we may have quite a few more players from recent years.

Also, Dan Quinn is a five-team player (Pens, Blues, Flyers, Stars, Kings). Other than goalie Gary Edwards (who was transferred to Minnesota via the protected list) I know of no other five-team players.

He also played for the Flames and Canucks, meaning that he played for seven of the first ten post-67 expansion teams; two of which had been merged together into one (which he did play for).
