Gionta is pretty much the most useless player that has ever played in a Habs uniform. He really needs to GTFO. He brings nothing to this team.

He's bought into the habs system where he doesn't want to hit the net unless it's in the goalie's chest.

He's still a solid player, but just beat on because of his cap hit and that he's 1 of 4 players current under 5'9.

No. That honor would go to Desi Arnez.

He's not a primary offensive player anymore. But I don't think he'll be in that role for much longer. He should be reduced to 2nd/3rd line time with younger guys as a decent mentor, and keep his PK responsibilities.

I'm okay with 1 more year at his current salary, then reduced salary and reduced role as long as this team continues to prosper with him as the captain. No need to fix what's not broken there. But if this team misses the playoffs next season, it's time for a new face.

The only current player under 5'9 that should stay with the team is Gallagher. The other ones...uh, well...

This clearly must be your first season as a habs fan, on behalf on habs fans everywhere I welcome you. You may want to watch what you say being a new hab fan and all, some people around here get awfully ornery when newcomers make outlandish statements like that

Thank you very much! I hope my integration will be quick. I'm sorry about the statement I said earlier. It won't happen again.

That's a more reasonable question than the ridiculous previous post you made.

His offense this year has been second or third line worthy in my opinion, depending on the game.

His defense, checking, speed, leadership and hustle are still top-notch. This is a guy you want in the playoffs. Just maybe not on the power play.

Going forward, I can envision him as a very effective third line winger.

The only time he was ever good was with Gomez. That's why they were a package.

Now that Gomez is gone, time for Gio to follow suit as well imo. It's a real shame we gave him the captaincy, I love him as a person sure but he isn't good enough anymore.

If we win the cup, he's going to be the first Montreal Canadien in 20 years to hoist the cup.

Get behind our captain, or GTFO.

Indeed. You're right. But what about the regular season? Does he create scoring chances for the team? For his linemates? Not really. Not to mention that he can't score in shootout.

Does he hit? No. I hope Bergevin won't make the same mistake as with Desharnais. At 2-2.5M, I wouldn't be against an extension.

I think the fact that there was not any training camp might have hurt him more than anyone else since he is getting on the older side of the team.

Also, anyone questioning his captaincy because of his goal scoring abilities should be ashamed of themselves.

Even though he may not be the most skilled on the team, he is the definition of work ethic, hard work and leadership.

Get behind this him, he will show our young guys how to make it work in the NHL.
Granted, he has to take a smaller role as of next year imo.

Because everyone knows that the captain of an NHL team wins the Cup by himself!

The problem with 24CH is it's getting to be way to repetitive without actually going in very deep. Pretty shallow coverage of what each player is dealing with tbh. Not that I expect more, but after 4 episodes, it's a nice look, but not nice enough. Part of the problem a lot of us have is not being able to affect the situation. We want to know WHY Gio has dropped off. Is he really done? Is he going to kick it up in the playoffs? All we can do is wait for the next game after each loss and it's frustrating as hell. I think everyone would love to see a 2 goal night by Gio, even the ones who are hating on him a little overboard.
