It's all mental with Price. He has the talent to be the best goalie in the league. But he either loses focus or can't shake a bad goal. If he had a short memory he'd be a great goalie. He can still put it all together...even now he's still a solid goalie.
Thing is you can't dissociate both the mental and the talent. It means absolutely nothing to say that he has all the talent in the world. I guess that tons of great goalies to be ended up bad in the NHL 'cause of their mental attributes.
Has nothing to do with punishing him. It's about protecting your most valuable asset.
I see your point... Seems like you're right so far. I've heard goalies saying they always want to get right back out there after a bad performance though. I guess it depends on the goalie, I think Price probably wanted to get back out. This is such a touchy situation...
Price isn't catching pucks anymore either. He used to just swallow every shot that came his way.
Personally, I think he needs to see a complete defensive breakdown in front of him, and highlight reel a 2-on-0 to get his mojo back. All them deflections and screens are only going to keep killing him. Even with Price's elite mental capacity, he's gotta be doubting himself at this point.
Deflection and screen, get back to me when he lets one in from the blue-line with clear sight. Some of you are unbelievable. I have no problem admitting when Carey makes mistakes but it's ridicilous how people are so hellbent on crucifying for the goals so far.
