For a culture that can also throw back vodka like water and deal with winter's right from the inner circle of Dante's Inferno... it seems odd that a few Scoville's of scorch would hold any fear.
We are complicated people. If you'd ever suffered through a chapter of Dostoyevsky, you know this.
with the chicken wing festival fast approaching I have a question:
I Have only been to the festival once but when i went they had a chicken wing eating contest. The point of eating chicken wings to me is how many hot can you eat?
Well they ate them with no sauce, not a drip.
I thought it was very lame and next time they should see who can eat the most wings with suicidal sauce, now that would be entertaining. Right?
My friends and I use to do that to BAR BILL extra hot wings. WOW! If you stop its really hard to get going again. I think I had 10 wings but I'm a native southern tierer not a buffalonian.
I do miss the food in buffalo, being down here in horseheads really stinks when it comes to food. The pizza, mighty taco, jim's steak out, wings, anderson's, etc etc

Oh man...that is painful. Their wings are the spiciest I've ever had. I got an order of their hot wings (which they claim are extra hot), and I was wearing my glassses. Those fogged up, and I was soaking napkins with my sweat. My friend who was with me was just watching and laughing the entire time. The first few wings aren't so hot, but when you keep 1 more at a time that heat builds on your tongue.
Luckily it was the middle of winter so I stuck my head out the window on the car ride back to cool down.
I was in a chicken wing eating contest at Wild Wings up on Niagara Falls Blvd. The goal was to see who could eat 20 hot wings first. Their hot isn't very hot, but I made it to 16 when one of the other guys finished number 20. I got 2 free pints of beer, and of course the wings were free. Funny though, I had to sign a waiver so Wild Wings wasn't responsible, and they provided puke buckets for us just in case.
If anyone is in or visits the Charlotte area, try "The Taste of Buffalo Pizzeria" or "Harvey's Bar". They are both in Huntersville, and they have the best wings this side of the mason dixon (imho).
Are you talking about the bar that has waitress wearing t-shirts that say best wings south of "Tonawanda, East Aurora, West Seneca, Cheektowaga"?
If you are you have got to be joking. They werent that good and they didnt even know what those names were on their shirt. Also it was the first game of the season buffalo vs dallas after they lost the stanley cup in dallas. I had to ask the bar tender to turn the game on and he didnt even know what hockey was i swear.
Thats what makes it such a joke that carolina won.
On my one and only trip to Buffalo, the manager of the hotel where the Mrs. and I stayed directed us to Hemmingway's on Pearl Street, within walking distance. Loved the wings. Moderately crisp, moderately spicy, great service. Now I can say I ate wings in Buffalo.

Ugh. Seriously I don't think I could possibly hate Carolina more than I already do. I would have rather had Toronto win the Cup because at least their fans are passionate about it.
Id have to say anchor bar or Doc Sullivans but anywhere in buffalos decent but i will never again get wings outside of buffalo because once youve had wings from buffalo everything else is just blah execept for wingfest ofcourse
Anyone actually been to a Wingfest before? What's the attraction?
We go every year. (Well, I didn't go last year because my stupid uncle picked that weekend to get married. Out of town. *******.) I wasn't entirely sold on it the first year, but I think it gets better every year. gaf's sister comes up for it every year now; it's her birthday present to herself, heh.
I just think it's cool that we finally have a festival celebrating something positive that we're well known for nationwide. It's the feel-good Pollyanna in me, I think. The Food Network profiled the festival on one of its programs & I thought it was so cool that people all over the country who only think of Buffalo as a place with a ****** economy & a lot of snow got to see something nice going on here.

I've gone 2 years in a row and will probably go again this year. I should probably be ashamed of this but I don't really got for the wings...I got for 2 items:
1. The Buffalo Chicken wing soup from Danny's
2. The Hawg Wings...which is just basically ribs, but oh man are they good, and filling.
Some other places there have pretty interesting flavors too.

ahhh come on!! its classic americana. 4 parts kitsch, 2 parts people watching (how often to you get to meet badlands booker, sonya thomas, or ed 'cookie' jarvis? competetive eaters ARE atheletes!!! ), and 3 parts indulging, all stired up into a nice pot of blue cheese dressing.. my sister came into town for the festival- 2nd year in a row.
Legend Larry's from Shebogian (sp?), WI has the best medium wings EVER!
They look like another Buffalo Wild Wings. Interesting though, they serve their wings with ranch instead of blue cheese...which would make my friend very happy.
They claim to have 25 flavors, each star represents a level of hotness:
