As a direct victim of the 9/11 attacks, i know what the victims are feeling, nothing but love to everyone who was effected.

The level of sophistication of the attacks is just as disconcerting. The FBI and DHS have a lot of explaining to do, especially when you consider the measures they've put in place after 9-11.

Sickening. Absolutely dreadful.

Pretty horrible day. Yet again, another tragedy, doesn't seem to stop nowadays does it?

The good that comes out of this is the people who responded to the injured and scared.

Let us all not forget that the brotherhood of man are almost entirely good people and those that seek to destroy our connection to each other are the real unfortunates.

Very horrible--even so considering the number of injured it's amazing that more weren't killed outright. And fortunate as well that the two other bombs did not go off.

Level of sophistication? One or two guys dropped a couple of backpacks in an area where there are literally thousands as folks are finishing the race. The sad truth is this type of thing can happen at any time.

There wasn't much sophistication...

Sophisticated would mean high grade explosives and a specialized detonation device.

From the news, it sounds like low quality home made explosives and a cell phone detonator. This COULD have been the work of 1 nutjob with some basic chemistry / engineering knowledge.

Now the Mass Governor is saying that there were only 2 bombs and not multiple unexploded bombs. I had heard that there were up to 3 unexploded bombs. Its times like this I can't stand the media. DON'T REPORT SOMETHING if it has not been confirmed or if you do not know whether or not it is true. All these media outlets are trying to be the first to report the damn story so their website can get the most hits without knowing the facts first.

Unfortunately, the mandate of the media is to get the story first, not necessarily get the story right.

Horrible. Just horrible. The saving grace is seeing the people willing to help and comfort despite the situation. Hopefully the saying Good always prevails really is true.

After the bombs went off obviously everyone ran off, often dropping their bags/backpacks. The police have to treat each of those bags on the ground as a potential explosive. That's where media reports get their 2-3 additional devices. Plus, lets say they did find more, they might not want the media to report it as they want to get any intelligence off of it and respond before any groups know they have them.

That's what journalism is nowadays. You want to be the first one to report the story.

Exactly. I listened to the EMS scanner for about 2 hours yesterday after it happened and in that span alone there were literally dozens of requests for EOD to come and inspect suspicious bags, packages, piles of clothes, etc.

That's what journalism always has been. There are just new avenues to doing it that are quicker. Problem is there is a lot more inaccuracies on initial reports.

Twitter is a huge reason for this. Every person with a cell phone and a data connection is now a 'reporter' and can push thoughts, video or pictures to thousands and thousands of people instantaneously. I have a friend who works for a major news outlet and he's told me that his network has people who almost exclusively use Twitter as their "source" for information.

And along with that is zero accountability.

Random source @hottip673 has no obligation to anyone to report accurately, and the reporter who uses that as a source can just say he was just quoting someone else.

That's social media for you. On the plus side you do get information a lot faster and unfiltered. It's hard to suppress things that the government doesn't want out there when 100s of people are posting pictures about it.

The one thing that I want to take from this, is the willingness that everyone has to help out in a time of need.
Never mind the fact that while the smoke is still clearing the emergency workers are running toward the scene.

Im just tired of the fact that the country needs stuff like this to happen in order to "come together."

...and, especially so, that the perpetrator needs to have been a foreigner for the above statement to be true.
