That and defensive deficiencies...

I'd much prefer Nurse or Jones. Pulock is slick with the puck though.
Yeah, I'd imagine the question is more how Pulock compares to Zadorov and Ristolainen in terms of overall projection (I know he's a very different kind of player).

As I attached to my edit in the previous post...

I don't think Pulock is overall better than Zadorov or Ristolainen, but I think he has the better potential to be what we need on the back-end, which is a high-end PMD.

That's why I'd pick him over the other two.

If you had to take a guess, who would you expect the Flyers to take saying they're picking around the 7th spot. Or is it a crapshoot?

I say take a swing at a forward if you're going to keep that pick at 7 and Nurse is gone (which I think he could be as early as 4).

Pulock is a risk to develop. Zadorov is a risk to develop an offensive game. Ristolainen is a toss up.

However, it's the Flyers. You know they have a forward already in mind and where they want to get him. It's just a matter of whether a defenseman they really like is on the board.

I know he dealt with injury issues this season, so that could be playing a role. It's almost like he's been good for so long and since he didn't have a noticeable jump in play/production this year, he's falling a bit.

Anyway, I don't think he's projected to go top 10 anymore. If we were to trade back, he might be an option, but it seems like a stretch based on where we sit at the moment.
I've read one or two reports saying his skating wasn't a plus, but a lot of people have praised his skating. It looks pretty good to me.

As for his defensive play, it sounds like he's pretty sound positionally and good with his stick, while occasionally throwing his body around. As long as it's solid, that works for me based on his outlet passing/offensive upside.

Assuming we do draft Nurse, I think he's good enough for the 9 game try-out and then get sent back to juniors.

Anyone think the Nichushkins report about him wanting to play for the Flyers has anything to do with the Flyers talking to him before the draft

As fans, would we have a problem with drafting this kid if he intends to stay over in Russia for two more years??

I honestly wouldn't have a problem because he would be playing against men, but some in the organization might not want him over there for that time.

I have only seen him play a little through WJC, but seen some lofty comparisons(Malkin being one). Krishna also stated he saw him play live through steams in KHL playoffs and liked him a lot. I don't know how much he can be relied on for reliable hockey information though

I would totally wait it out for Nichushkin. I just don't know if the front office would

Well I understand it from an organization stand point also. While he's playing against men you also run the risk of losing him over there. The longer he stays there the more opportunities his KHL team gets to convince him to stay by offering him crazy money and other benefits that the NHL can't provide. Then you have the risk of Nichuskin himself getting too comfortable over there and wanting to stay home.

I can't really see the latter happening but the former definitely will and for that I understand why the Flyers wouldn't take a chance on him unless they know they can get him over here before his contract ends.

Nichushkin is an incredible talent and I would be happy if the Flyers drafted him but I wouldn't be pissed off if they didn't also.

as much as i'd like Nurse, part of me thinks we need a guy like Pulock. Nurse is potentially the total package. And i feel with those guys there is more room for failure. Whereas a guy like pulock is already a specialist on the pp and has the ability to provide mobility in the back end something we deserpately need. Personally id love to get both.

Pulock stock is dropping isn't it? Could Pulock drop to the 2nd round?

I don't think he'll drop that far--maybe 15-20.

if you want Poluck and you think you can get him in the late teens you can always trade down.

A very strong skater both forward and backward...smooth powerful stride...very good agility and mobility...confident in his skating ability and plays a very tight gap...solid defensive player who seldom joins the rush...hard and accurate first pass...sees the ice well...very poised and doesn't panic with the puck...has a quick accurate wrist shot from the point along with a very heavy slap shot...used on the penalty kill and effective when given an opportunity on the power play...an aggressive hard-nosed player who excels in a physical contest...competes hard and wins most battles for loose pucks in the defensive zone...makes opposing forwards pay a price for standing in front of his net.
Quote:
Huge and highly mobile defenceman is just starting to tap into his massive
potential. He’s already a shutdown defender who can physically dominate games down low. Keeps the
crease clear and shows excellent defensive awareness and positioning. Has a long wingspan and plays
with an active stick, clogging passing lanes. Closes gaps quickly, angles men to corners, and has quick
feet to contain smaller, shifty forwards. Strong in coverage. Doesn’t activate much yet in the offensive
end, but makes rocket outlet passes and has some offensive upside.

Darnell is such a mobile skater for
a kid who’s 6-foot-5,” said Sault Ste. Marie
coach Mike Stapleton. “His growth and
maturity is a major focal point of who he is
this year and he is definitely stronger and can
identify certain situations faster. His lateral
movement is way ahead of the curve and he
can move forward and sideways with ease.”
If not Jones, this is our best bet.

I'd bet it on all this kid.

Still not enough offense for me.

We don't need the Russian Luke Schenn.

Chris, his offense has only begun to pick up. He's been used as a shutdown D man in London.

He'll have a more offensive role next year.

The reason he went up this month in the draft rankings is because his offense is developing nicely.

Hmmm.

I'll save my judgement on this for the Flyers' organization. I think we need offense, and we have some more proven offensive options from the point in this draft.

Passing on Zadorov for Pulock could be a mistake, but I'm really not entirely confident in either.

I want Nurse.

I will say however that Zadorov is a fantastic defenseman. I don't know if he can control the flow of the game with the puck like we need though. He can control it with his body for sure, but we don't need another Schenn.

If Zadorov is there at 7 or 8 when the flyers are picking and Nurse is gone, the flyers are absolutely stupid to reach for Pulock.

He's a mid round pick at this point and is just dropping

I agree. But is Zadorov a reach at 7-8?
