I didn't understand the Mitchell signing one bit back then and honestly I doubt Avs expected him to be this good on the offensive side of the game. His decision making and defensive play still aren't all that good, but he's been amazing for what we're paying him.
As for PAP I had my concerns considering his foot speed and the JT factor, but after going through some articles (most notably the one that shows he produced at a higher clip when he was playing with Nielsen) my concerns slowly faded away.
I'm just glad to say that I was wrong on both of them.
He's starting to carve out a Marty St. Louis type late bloomer career for himself, isn't he?
Definitely has become a superstar after spending a long time toiling in the minors. How long he keeps it up remains to be seen, but right now he's playing at a higher level than most forwards in the NHL.
I would like to point out that Pappy is currently 6th in Western conference scoring and two points behind the 3 way tie of Duchene, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg and three points behind second place Getzlaf. Both Duchene and Pappy have significantly lower salaries than all of the ones above in the scoring race (may be wrong on Zetterberg though, assuming a high salary). That pair of players is one of the few bright spots of this current team. I really hope they can continue.
