Hopefully that encourages them to put out something that doesn't look like NHL 13.5
Though the XBOX360 was released in November 2005, EA didn't release a next-gen game for the system until the following September. Likewise, although the PS3 was released in November 2006, EA didn't port NHL 07 to that system, instead waiting for NHL 08 to release a next-gen game on to the PS3.

Hopefully, the current development team won't rush the release on to next generation platforms. While EA waited a full year after the 360 and PS3 had each been released, 2K Sports released an upgraded version of NHL 2K6 on to the XBOX360 as a launch title, and 2K7 as a PS3 launch title. The next-gen 2K games weren't all that much improved from their sixth generation (PS2, XBOX) counterparts.

I also hope they don't scrap all of the features implemented into the current-gen game only to reintroduce them in increments throughout the PS4's lifetime. Most of the features such as boardplay were already in NHL 2004. When EA began work on NHL 07, they started all over again. They would be taking a huge step back by offering the bare minimum again for the next edition unless they offer another revolutionary game mechanic. Even the skill stick was, to some degree, already available in NHL 2003 -- they just didn't configure up and down on the analog stick for shooting.

Yeah, but I enjoyed it much more when you could play an entire game in less than 45 minutes.

This.

My point was that many people will skip NHL 14 and wait for NHL 15 on Next-Gen if they don't offer anything special for people to buy it on the Current-Gen.

The whole "remove features to sell them as 'new' on Next-Gen" is insulting to us. If they pull that crap again, I'll be pissed.

They'll give us one good last games this gen if history is correct. Last time they hit next gen consoles the only modes they had was quickplay and a bare minimum franchise mode if I recall correctly.

Also just to add... They'll announce more features as we get closer to the release date. So don't expect this will be it. Also the gameplay won't change too much (which is fine by me). But I hope they improve the presentation some more. Dosent look like it though.

Not going to touch this no matter what they add if there isn't a significant performance increase with some bug fixing done to BAGM on PS3.

On the flipside I'd buy it with even the tiniest of new features if they released it on PS4 and it benefited from the performance there, even before they release one specifically made for the new hardware.

I think they'd be great in a more arcadey hockey game. Maybe a modern Blades of Steel.

I can't really see myself buying NHL 14. I especially don't get all the excitement over Live the Life.

They're usually invited to go to E3, so I imagine they'll be there again this year. Therefore, more will be revealed approximately between June 11-13. However, I'm sure they'll reveal more a month in advance.

The NBA2k13-like additions have me actually excited

Shame it won't be on PC though (probably a good thing because of dumb Origin...)

That would require optimizing the engine for that console or, better yet, using another engine (FOX Engine like PES?), something EA won't want to spend money on.

If they make a big case of improving fighting this year and not improve BEAGM, I'll just lose my mind.

EA is fooling around with people it's crazy. So I guess I wont even be surprised.
