2014 NHL Draft Top 60 Prospects

Here is my updated Top 60. The 2014 draft has been dominated so far by smallish forwards with offensive potential and large forwards who have struggled to produce at their levels this year (see Damian Bourne, Eric Cornel among others). If these guys put it together, they will move up quickly.

Is Adrian Kempe related to Mario Kempe? Both came from Modo Jr... and nice to see Dal Colle that high on a list!

Reinhart, Kempe

Scouts say that Reinhart has that special hockey sense that sets him apart from others. He seems to know where everyone is on the ice and makes those around him better (which he had to do in Kootenay because of the rebuilding there).

Add in the fact that he has tremendous leadership skills and the bloodlines, and you have the formula for a top pick. Ekblad also has a hockey sense that is beyond his years and if you watch him he is always 2 steps ahead of the play. I have seen him play at least 10 times the past couple of years and he looks like he is hardly trying out there because he is so smooth (he also looks like he is 25 not 16-17).

Being able to be where the puck is going, rather than where it is, is a special quality that not alot of players possess. Reinhart (and Ekblad) has it.

Adrian Kempe's brother did play for St. John's of the Q, and rumours are that he will make the jump when he is drafted in the CHL Euro Draft this summer.

Do you know if there are those kind of rumors about Anton Karlsson as well? There are lots of young players ahead of him in Frölunda's organization so he'll probably get stuck in the J20 league for a while if he stays.

Nice to finally see Nikolaj Ehlers in the top 30.

Well deserved.

For what it's worth, Denmark just won the Division 1A U18 WC and will be part of the u18 WJC next year.

Denmark beat Belarus 3-2 in SO with Ehlers Scoring the tie goal and the Game winner in the SO.

Denmark then beat France 5-1

Then beat Slovenia 3-0 Saving more than 55SOG the Slovenian keeper had a super game.

They then beat Italy 4-1 and in the final beat Norway 6-3.

Ehlers had 11 points (3G 8A). second in the tourney only behind 2013 draftee Markus Söberg from Norway.

Ehlers has also signed a Pro Contract with his NLA club EHC Biel. So he will most likely play pro amongst men next year at age 17.

The choice was between Swedish elite Jr. or Pro in Biel, and he chose Biel.

Summer will tell if any CHL club is dumb enough to waste an import on him.

His first pro goal at age 16 in the NLA:

And for those of you who understand Swiss-German here is a video Interview with him:

http://www.grenchnertagblatt.ch/spor...ielt-125896998

Bonus info.

Nikolaj's father Heinz Ehlers was the first ever dane to get drafted in 1984 as #188 overall by the NY Rangers.

Under 18s

Who has improved their stock from this list the most so far in the Under 18s? If the Swedish goalie keeps playing like this he is going to have to shoot up this list after the Championships.

I think the fact he misses the draft by a few days this season will help his draft position. Next season he'll probably get some SEL games in and compete for the WJC backup spot.

Ekblads having a monstrous playoffs with Barrie. 9 points in 10 games playing as Barries #1 D. I think he'll be clear cut #1 in the draft next year. He's better now than Jones was at the same age.

I don't see Ryan MacInnis dropping out of the first round. His size his too good to pass up.
