Desperate times call for desperate measures...what a state we are in ...hopefully he is not risking his own future health for this hockey team . If he is....he really should have his head examined if he is not 150 % healthy .

Staal also described adjusting to blurred vision off-ice. Re-learning how to drive. Said he can read again, couldn't couple of weeks ago.

Staal said he needs to feel safe with puck rimming around boards, or with the puck dumped into the zone. Not there yet.

Need Dorsett on the ice too. Team looked dead last night. Too vanilla.

Bring Kreider up. Sit Pyatt.

Unlike Mark Recchi, Staal actually provides useful injury updates.

All that and he didn't even get hit directly. If he had, likely would be blind in one eye.

Staal's interview is unintentionally hilarious.

When the Leafs lost Brian Berard in 2000 with his eye injury we had lots of news on his condition and info on the makeup of a human eye. We knew that his eye had been torn due to contact made by Marian Hossa's stick. This tear had affected the fluid pressure of the inside the eye, the optic nerve, cornea, lens and the iris. He had blurring after 3-4 months and doctors said he may get back to 40-50% but even a lens enhancement would not necessarily be enough to satisfy league requirements at that time. The news today that Marc is reading, skating and practicing is great news. The major problem with the Rangers presently is not 'all' of their top players are playing at a 'top' level which makes a loss of Staal so difficult to handle and poor depth. Sather has not done enough.

This season is pretty much a write off with out without Staal. I just hope they don't do something stupid like bring him prematurely back into the lineup like they did after he was concussed by his brother.

BBKers I would swap Brassard and Richas, at this point, Brad is our 3c until he is bought out. Put Clowe and Cally on his wings and pray for a puck not to go behind Hank. All we can do at this point.

You can't expect a full line up of good offense and perfect defense. What do you think this is, detroit?

NY Rangers Zone ‏@NYRangersZone #NYR Marc Staal had his first full practice today

Andrew Gross ‏@AGrossRecord #NYR D Ryan McDonagh on Marc Staal: "He’s getting better fast, which is a good sign."

That's the entire problem with Tortorella's system.

THE BEST DEFENSE IS OFFENSE. If they don't have the puck, they can't score.

Tortorella works on the principle of... let them have the puck and give them bad angle shots, block shots, and pray your all star goaltender can save your ass. When you're on offense, be sure to not burn yourself out because you have to back-check and start blocking more shots. Instead, dump it in and get ready to block more shots. We'll wait for a perfect fore-check and steal in their zone to generate 2-3 scoring opportunities a game.

Judging by the interviews, I dont think Staal will be a factor this season. I dont think he's fully comfortable with his eyesight and even if he gets himself into game shape, he might play a game and then come out. I dont think theres any harm in trying, but I just think his eye needs time to heal.

But thats just me.
