I still have two years left on my contract, so it’s not worrying me that much. I really need to focus on my summer training, so I can get back to my old form, that’s my main priority. The Rangers have recalled almost everyone from our team: Thomas, J.T. Miller, and he really struggled over there, Haley (all of these players have fewer points than Hrivík – auth.). They obviously see it differently over there. They want to take the younger guys from the farm, not the older players. They gave a chance to almost every young player on the team. From the first two formations, everyone except me played at least a game or two in the NHL.
Is that genuine bitterness or just something that was lost in translation?

He also sounds like he's really hopeful that the Rangers give Ceresnak a deal, to be with a fellow countryman.

I think it's just him stating a fact and showing a little frustration as if he were healthy, he would have gotten the call-up.

I have little doubt that Hrivik would have gotten some kind of shot if he were healthy. He looked very promising in the Whale games I watched during the lockout.

If he brings his A game over the summer he should definitely get a look in camp.

Is Hrivik considering himself an "older" player? He's 22. I don't get that. Newbury, Haley, Ferreiro, Mashinter, etc.. are all older than he is and were called up. The injury set him back and I'm sure it's been a frustrating season for him. He'll get his shot next year if he stays healthy.

Yeah, that's exactly how I read it. I saw it as a positive, not a negative - he was responding to a question about the national team and his response was essentially "actually training for the pro game is my main priority, because looking at the way the Rangers do things, if I'd been healthy I know I would've gotten my shot. I'm going to make sure I get it next year." Not sure how you can read it as bitterness.

Hrivik got hurt. He missed almost 3 months with a concussion. He was concussed last summer which forced him to miss the start of training camp last fall. Stay healthy. McIlrath didn't get a chance in the NHL either. He missed the first 3 months recovering from the dislocated knee cap. He lost valuable time getting kneed by Jean in late June and then having surgery in early July.

McIlrath would've looked like a deer caught in the headlights if he were called up. Hrivik would've looked just fine.

Greenville had a tough season. They had so many random guys suiting up for their games. They had 23 guys that played ten games or less for them! Insane. They were signing guys to PTO/ATO deals twice per week. Take a look at the roster of guys that played for them:

http://echl.com/stats/statdisplay.ph...id=-1&confId=0

Half of those guys were from the CHL/SPHL/other random borderline-beer leagues.

Found this on Dodero:

Quote:
#44 - Charlie Dodero (Draft Eligible in 2012, but second year eligible)
Easily one of the most improved players in the OHL this year. He's gone from being a very replaceable part to one of the top defensive defenseman in the OHL. He's got good size and is very solidly built. He just doesn't lose very many puck battles, and he has the mobility to stay with forwards off the rush. The greatest display of that today was when Sergey Kuptsov tried to get by him on the outside (not the easiest forward to contain once he gets going), but Dodero stayed right with him, separated him from the puck and finished him off hard on the end boards (leaving Kupstov slow to get up). His offensive game remains a bit of a work in progress, but he has the skating and puck handling ability to skate the puck out of trouble in his own end, rather than simply dump it out. There's a reason why this guy was rated by Central Scouting on their midterm rankings.

Wow. The Whale are collapsing. They lost 3-2. Manchester has a 2-1 lead, Hershey is in a tie. The saving grace is that Norfolk is down 5-1.

Hershey up 2-1 with a couple minutes to play. Manchester up 2-1 near the end of the third as well. Not looking good. Whale 0-4-1 in last five games now.

Norfolk is set to lose. So Hershey, Manchester and Norfolk have 79 points with two games left. The Whale are at 79 points with one game left.

Hershey plays: Binghamton and MANCHESTER.
Manchester plays: W/B Scranton and HERSHEY.
Norfolk plays: Albany and Providence
Connecticut plays: Portland

It's not looking great, but we'll see. Hershey/Manchester on Sunday will be huge.

Whale Watching

Good save by Talbot on a hard shot from between the hash marks.

Penalty on Albany. Towards the end of it, CT takes a penalty of its own.

Miller has more confidence than skill. Needs to see the ice a bit better.

Vernace has no clue about defensive play. He throws the puck towards the goal whether he's on offense or defense. A little too "exciting" on defense. If he had a brain to go with his skill, he'd be in the NHL.

GOAL: Collins with a great pass to Noob. In his own zone, just behind the left faceoff point, banks it off the right board to Noob who wrists it in. Segal with the other assist.

Whale gives up a 2 on 1, but the combination of Pyett and Talbot prevents a goal.

Another penalty on the Whale. What an undisciplined team. Most games, every other shift is a penalty or a fast break. And it usually get worst in the third.

Big sliding save by Talbot on the PK.

GOAL: Talbot makes a save, but it slides from under him. He thought it was in his pads, but it stopped right behind him. No defenseman came to help him. 1-1.

Bourque is fun to watch every shift he's out there. We'd love him as a fan favorite if he ever made the NHL.

Klassen > Bickel, and not just this game. I really think his game would translate well to the NHL. He won't be a star, but if he improves just a little bit more, we can have a quality #6 for $700k. It would be a great chance for Klassen and the Rangers would save money on our last pairing.

SECOND PERIOD

MCI using his speed to charge at the goalie to try to catch the puck that was cleared by the Whale. Doesn't get there in time, but forces the goalie to come out of the net, creating an opportunity for Thomas.

Kinkaid is looking real good for the Devil Rats.

Whale score, but not before running into Kinkaid, so it won't count and it's a penalty on the Whale. This is a BS call. It was a Rat who hit his own goalie and who knocked Kinkaid's helmet off. The officials are even more terrible than usual tonight. Awful, just awful.

Prior to the penalty, 6 shots for the Whale, none for the Rats.

Segal has the puck on his stick and tries to stickhandle instead of dumping the puck out, resulting in an own zone turnover, leading to all types of chances for the Devils the rest of the PP.

That idiot penalty call destroyed all the Whale momentum. Now 5 straight shots by the Rats.

Bourque draws a penalty. Love his game. Total BS that he's not in our top-20 prospects.

Really good looking PP for the Whale, but Kinkaid is putting on a goaltending clinic out there.

Say what you will about him at the NHL level, but Noob is the backbone of the Whale. He's to the Whale what Messier was to the Rangers 20 years ago.

GOAL: Collins with a strong game. And as I typed this, Collins dumps the puck out to Tessier who send it across to Thomas who buries it.

GOAL: I began writing that Talbot is doing well, but he gave up a goal under the catching glove that he shouldn't have. Too many WTF goals.

MCI on for both goals against, and both times he was the man closest to the puck when it was scored.

MCI is good at stopping the puck along the blue line to keep it in the offensive zone.

MCI gives up a turnover while trying to shoot from the blue line.

Something is off with Talbot's concentration. He stops tough shots like nobody's business, but if there is a simple shot, it goes in somehow.

SECOND OVER

THIRD PERIOD

Jean with a great play to create a semi-breakaway, it's stopped. Bickel should've buried it, but if he did things like that, he's still be in the NHL.

Someone needs to buy Vernace a book called "Playing Hockey In Your Own Zone For Beginners."

Whale working hard to make sure Talbot gets his usual 35+ shots per game, most of them difficult.

Collins continues to play well.

Bourque goes coast to coast through a lot of traffic, leading to a good Whale shift in the offensive zone.

GOAL: Talbot charged from all sides. Several shots. The last one on the rebound goes in with Talbot going down. It was redirected up by Pyett into his own net. 3-2.

After facing his norm of 35 shots, Talbot is pulled for the extra attacker.

Game over. Unbelievable. We picked up only 1 point out of 8 in the 4 games in last 7 days. BS!

The Whale is one of 4 teams tied for 7-10 place, but it has played one more game than everyone else, which matters a lot here considering that it has only one game left and all others have 2 more games. Looks like no playoffs for the Whale this year due to a complete collapse at the end.

THREE STARS

1. Sean Collins: Very strong game. Good on defense and got two assists.

2. Thomas: involved the whole game and scored a goal.

3. Bourque: caused a penalty and multiple offensive opportunities.

HM - Newbury: the backbone of the team.

Any idea what the tiebreaker is in the AHL? Is it ROW like in the NHL?

Hrivik is not a Torts player. However, I doubt Torts will be coaching this team if they make the playoffs or lose in the first round.
