Just completed - the most in depth mock draft on the planet up at THW. Okay, well maybe not on the planet. Heck, maybe not even in North America. But...it is pretty in depth...and it is pretty awesome from Leafs perspective...

Some story lines:
- Leafs draft son of enforcer
- So do Jets!

- Flames draft 2 kids born in Calgary plus an offensive dynamo
- Habs draft prospect from la belle province
- Oilers nab another Russian
- Sens get an ice warrior
- Avs brings a big blueliner back home! (not that much of a shock).
- Devils cash in on Grigorenko situation take 2.
- Caps refurbish their Swedish prospect ranks

Honestly, Horvat would be one of my first targets if we are around 15-22 mark at the draft. He has a lot to offer, plays a complete all around game, can setup plays, and has captain material all over him. No doubt in my mind that with a good development, he will be a solid 2nd line C in this league who can play well in all situations and lead by example.

That being said, there is a good possibility that he may not be available around that range and could be gone before top 15 pick. HE IS THAT good.

If not him, then Antony Mantha is another player I would love to see us target. He is got solid hockey sense, offensive abilities, 2 way game and great size that he uses to his advantage. He could be a very very good top 6 LW in the future.

I keep hearing about how Shinkaruk is overrated and how he's going to slip. I hope he does, he's probably my favourite player in this draft after Mr. Sasha Barkov.

Extremely skilled and IMO could've been better this season (I know he did well) however he will take the same route like Kadri IMO, as in take his sweet time.

Ayup. I don't really know why his points slipped this year, but his scoring ability remains among the best in the draft. He actually reminds me quite a bit of our very own Phil Kessel. Not a defensive bone in his body and he'll never play a physical game, but for sheer offensive potential, I put him second only behind Drouin this year.

A big part of Kessel's game is skating. Kessel is one of the fastest and fluid skaters in the league, Shinkurak on the other hand is not a very good skater.

He does remind me a bit of Kessel but I don't think he'll be even half as good unless his skating improves dramatically.

Really? I've always thought he was a pretty good skater

If a forward is our target (and let's be honest, BPA aside we are sorely lacking forward and goaltending depth in terms of prospects) Horvat or Rychel would be excellent targets in the area we are probably looking at. Fucale or Spencer Martin (2nd round?) for goalies.

I'm a bit wary on Mantha TBH. Could be an excellent project though.

Yeah I'm pretty sure most scouts seem as a player with very good skating. Quick google search confirms that.

Etem leaving is why the points went down. I think saying he's the second best offensive player next to Drouin is grossly overstating it, but he does have a nice skill set. I think people will be surprised by how far he slips, but he will be a nice pick. I think Kessel was a way better prospect than Shinkaruk, but there's no reason why with a few more seasons of development he can't evolve into a solid top 6 player.

I think he's considered a good skater, but not a great skater like Kessel...

In case people haven't read it or have been told the THN draft preview is out.

Ristolainen and Shinkaruk at #22 and #23 respectively.

Which I'm sure will tickle some on here pink.

Yes I forgot about the Etem thing. This was actually talked about when they were linemates. EE isn't quite Radulov but the halo effect would be a concern. Rychel has no such concerns. Its only Junior stats but the trending puts more onus on the scouts to get it right.

Yes please, he can be everything we expected Luke Schenn to be for us, and then some

Thanks for the 411...and for the reborn optimism in drafting Risto

Have you?

And I suppose that has nothing to do with you being based out of London does it?

Being serious though, He's a good player and my favorite of the London forwards. DM is based out of London, So you can bet he's seen him play a bunch.

If we want Horvat, we'll most likely have to trade up.
