Did Ott play in the second period? Seemed to get shorted a bit.

And can we end the forward-at-the-PP-point thing, please? Nice to see them try a 1-3-1 for a little, but a stafford up top is ridiculously insane.

Cheers to Boston. Great atmosphere. Stay strong. Great job with the anthem.
He's was pretty damn good on the backcheck.

Just wanted to say thanks again Buffalo.

That stick salute at the end of the game was something that I will hold dear the rest of my life.

I honestly haven't been in the Vanek for captain contingent but this gesture definitely makes me take notice

Nice job on Van's part.
Though the national media (i.e. CNN Sports) is giving the Bruins total credit for that. Doesn't really matter at all though in the scheme of things. It was a great night, and both teams handled the situation as well as anyone could have asked for.

I think he's a terrible passer in the defensive or neutral zones. Breakouts and rushes just seem to be off, to me. In the offensive zone, when he has time to set up, he's better. But he's misfired badly on some no-look passes for a few games now.

I hardly ever see him pass in the defensive zone, since he does tend to float a lot. I agree his passing has been off since he came back from the injury. I would point out the no-look pass to Ennis a couple of game ago. While not a no-look pass, his setup for Hodgson was a beauty last night.

Also, I am considering the total body of his work, not just the last few games. Vanek's passing has always been severely underrated by some.

Vanek is a terrible passer in 9 out of 10 situations... He's awful in transition. He's abysmal in his own zone. He's pretty bad on the rush... and the one situation he's not awful in, he still isn't very successful (o zone possession situations)

and even still, most of the decisions he makes in the offensive zone rarely work... it's just that when the do, it's a highlight reel play.

Vanek may be an underrated playmaker... but he is so far from the best passer on the team it's not even funny.

One of the better passers in the league??? That's pretty hysterical...

No, it's quite clear to anyone who pays attention to passes made outside of scoring situations

But you think "Vanek" and "Passing" and immediately the no look/Ennis goal from a few days ago pops into your head, and makes you believe he's a good all around distributor of the puck in all hockey situations.

I can assure you, Vanek is not a good distributor of the puck in all hockey situations.

Where did you pull, "One of the better ones in the league"... from?

How many skaters belong in the "better passers in the league" category?

Holy putting words in my mouth, Batman. The backhand to Ennis was typical Vanek, in that he puts the puck in traffic areas a lot and is generally excellent with the puck around the net, but it's not really a prime example of his all-around playmaking. The saucer pass a-wide-open-in-the-slot Hodgson couldn't handle on a 4 on 2 was a better example of Vanek's abilities from the same game.

Also, being able to change the point of attack on the rush/through the neutral zone via width-of-the-ice wing-to-wing passes was like one of the best aspects of the Vanek/Pominville combination for the past three seasons.

Came here to say this. But Lady Rhian said it so well.

I was at the game and met a few Buffalo fans .

I have been going to the B's home games for 10 years and that one was the most emotional.

Thanks for all of the support.

Vanek's a top-40 or top-50 passer in the league over the past few years if you go strictly by assist numbers

You can shoot the puck on net, have it bounce in off a teammate, he gets the goal and you get the assist, and it's not a pass. You can have the puck go off your body, bounce to a teammate, he scores, you get an assist, and it's not a pass. You can shot at the net, miss, have it bounce off the wall, another teammate scores, and you get an assist, but it's still not a pass. Assist numbers is really just a poor standard to use for passing ability.

You CAN but that isnt how he gets his assists if you watch. Offensive zone vanek is a great passer and is creative with the puck
