Why the hell would CNN show the videos of the explosions..

EMS is reporting another device" in front of Mandarin Hotel

double edit :

They've found anywhere from 1 to 3+ unexploded bombs in the area according to reports

Any speculation (outside of the usual suspicions) of who may have done it?

Bunch of media outlet saying the police have a Saudi national in custody
Police denying it
Guy on twitter took a bunch of pics of cops and the national guard arresting a guy in a park not far from the area

So at this point, no conclusive ideas

There has been a massive explosion at a fertilizer plant near Waco, Texas.

Saying 60-70 dead....

And the town has been evacuated because they fear there may be another explosion

http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/17/us/tex...ion/index.html

http://fox59.com/2013/04/17/explosio...#axzz2QmjfEGDe

Edit - some guy was taping the plant on fire before it exploded.

So there's the Waco explosion,

Boston Marathon bombing,

VT shootings,

Columbine Shooting,

Waco Koresh Siege,

and Columbine...all taking place from the 15th of April to the 20th of April in recent history.

WTF is up with that? People should pick this week to just stay in bed.

You might not like or agree with Obama on politics, but holy hell that guy can give a speech.

I actually disagree. I think he's awful at it, as bad as Bush. We haven't had a decent public speaker in the Oval Office since Clinton, IMO.

Public speaking is certainly a dying art. Just about everyone in Congress is pretty awful at it as well.

Whatever with the both of you lol

I thought his speech there was good.

Anyway, onto something I am actually good at.

The Cubs/Rangers game is under 10 1/2 runs with two really good pitchers going at it. The line seems so high for some reason. I told myself if the line was anything over 8 1/2 runs I was taking the under. Fishy line, but I like it haha. Now that I put it out there, I will undoubtedly lose the bet.

Nelson Cruz will hit 4 home runs today.

I thought he was better off the cuff than he was using a teleprompter.

So...I guess not. As I said, public speaking is basically a lost/rare skill. Our politicians aren't really orators anymore.

It is a lost art. That I would agree with. I would bet the percentage is fairly low amongst our elected leaders in being good public speakers.

Eh, I don't think it is a lost art as much as it is people analyzing everything these days. Politicians can speak, respond to questions, etc. on the fly. They wouldn't be politicians if they couldn't. The problem is that they are rarely permitted to do so when the cameras are rolling becaue fear of saying something that isn't 100% what your constituents want.

If Politician A is in favor of gun rights and gives a speech not off a teleprompter and accidentally says something slightly out of line with what his agenda is, that quote can cause Politician A a ton of problems, even if it is a harmless mistake that really doesn't have any type of effect on his views/arguments/whatever. It is just the microscope these guys are under 24/7.

They all can do it, its just not worth it because a slip up that isn't really even a slip up can cause a lot of problems for someone in the political world. I'm not even talking about making a big gaffe like using a racial slur or something stupid like that. Just something simple as saying something slightly out of line with what you have said in a previous speech. Teleprompter is safer.

And the Oklahoma City bombings which was on the 19th if I'm not mistaken.

In other news our public transportation sucks, at least in Stockholm...

Hows your regional transit? A lot of US cities have very good local public transportation, but regional bus and rail is usually lacking or downright bad.

There's bi-weekly trivia at my local watering hole and my friends have been going for about three years. I join them from time to time, but not that often; last night I joined them and they won for the first time.

... might have had something to do with the fact that almost half of the questions were about sports. That certainly helped.

I'm not an experienced traveler when it comes to regional transit but you can go by train to practically any part of the country and from my experience it is quite comfortable to travel by train. However they are unable to run properly whenever there is snow on the ground and a lot of trains are cancelled, which causes huge problems for commuter since the traffic is heaviest around Christmas. When the snow has cleared though it runs pretty good. The snow problem also applies to local transportation, it's a mess every year.

Furthermore it is always amusing to read the newspapers during this period because it seems like the authorities are suprised every single year that the snow has come around early december and you feel like "we've got snow 4 months a year, this can't be a surprise to you", but sure enough...

Regarding the regional buses they're not very good and subsequently it isn't a major way of transportation, at least not for trips over 1 hour, and people usually opt to go by car instead.

I love trivia, we go weekly to the same place. Know the waitress now (she's even played with us a few times when she's gotten off) and we had won 2 months straight. I really enjoy it.

I don't know what these "taxes" are, but I refuse to pay them.

6-2 final. Good win. Figured I would lose since I announced my bet.
