4-3 Russia, nice solo effort. Oh, got lucky with the deflection.

RUS GOAL! RUS 4 - USA 3 .. Tkachyov picks up a loose puck, turns and toe-drags a D, beating Demko high stick with a wrister, looked to be deflected .. less than a 1:00 remains now, USA GK out .. goalmouth scramble, under review now, looks to be a shot off crossbar, out and under goalie, frozen .. no goal.

I hate when Russia is extra passive at the end of these games.

Agreed. Think Shestyorkin was the difference. And that's not knocking Demko who I thought played well, too. But USA was buzzing quite a few times. Was pretty impressed with Louis today.

Excellent win for Russia! I thought Team USA outplayed Russia from start to finish, but that it to expected I guess, because the USA comes in as the most cohesive unit as a team in the tournament. The defense looked brutal at times, but they hung just tough enough to keep the puck out of the net when it looked like a bunch would go in. Hopefully, they will start to gel as a team after they have played together for a bit.

Congrats to Team Russia - good win to start their tournament in front of what looked like a good crowd. I can't comment on most of the Russian players since I don't really know them but I thought Team USA was better overall from start to finish but Russia was better where it mattered.

This game to me was decided by two things:

1) Shestyorkin outplayed (with some post luck that all good goalies get) Demko. Shestyorkin made some big saves to bail out his team and Demko never really did. Thatcher was off today but he'll bounce back.

2) USA didn't capitalize on a lot of their chances in the 1st period they dominated. They could have built up a sizable margin there but didn't, although credit goes back to Shestyorkin for some of that as well. No lead is ever safe against the Russians but they could have possibly demoralized the crowd and a team feeling the pressure.

I was just about to comment on how impressed I was with Connor Clifton this game and then he defended that last goal as if he was a forward wearing two left skates while playing with a left handed stick. He still had a good game but man was that bad.

I don't think either team is going to be defined by this game though. Obviously Russia will add Nichuskin and both teams will continue to grow and gel but both look formidable, as expected, going forward.

Overall a fun game to watch and congratulations again to the Team Russia and their fans!

I feel confident saying that Sweden will have their hands full if they want to beat any of these teams. Especially defensively.

Really bad game for Tolchintsky, Barbashev. Seems they did not improve since last year. Best player Buchnevich, liked Vityaz MHL guys.

The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision. Don't say crap like that just because they play in the CHL. In a game where the USA dominated at times only a couple of players from Russia stood out, Tolchintsky being one of them. Stop your bs and grow up.

we are arguably missing the top-4 dmen in the country born in 95: Trubkin/Vorobiev/Zadorov (may be best in the world)/Valeev

Curious how he cares so much about Russian kids in CHL and always mentions when they are not the next coming of Malkin/Ovi even though he's not Russian...

Nah, he actually plays hockey quite regularly, even training with veterans in the evenings, a couple of times per month. And I wouldn't call junior championship a limelight.
