ATL hockey fans get shafted again

This time not by team ownership but by arena management. You'd think with the Gladiators being the #3 seed and with the possibility of home ice in each round and considering the Gladiators are its longest serving tenant the arena would be a bit more flexible.

Disney on Ice is there May 1-5 and usually several high schools use the arena for graduation at the end of May.

shouldn't that have been part of the lease?

"if the teams makes the POs they have priority on the arena"

You would think.

That sucks for you Atlanta fans. Hopefully they can come to an agreement in the future and resolve this. That's very poor management IMO. Unless for some sad reason they think they can make more money without the team there...

There is no way they make more money in the long term. I saw Tool there in '09 and it's in the middle of suburbia. They're better served catering to the hockey phans.

I guess y'all like hockey more than me. I could care less about the Gladiators of Gwinnett. Just really depressing and pathetic that a tier 1 city like Atlanta has to get its hockey fix from the ECHL.

At this point, I guess I'm fine with ATL never getting another team ,because I've invested enough emotional capital in the Preds ,to where I feel the same about them, as I did for the Thrash.

unfortunately I don't see pro hockey in ATL ever again. Which is terrible. Sounds very similar to the Thrash in that it's an arena management issue.

Sucks that you feel that way as they are a quality organization and have been a fairly successful one on the ice coming off their 2nd straight South division championship. The arena itself is a nice facility but it sucks that the management is putting other events over the Gladiators. Also i'd rather watch minor league hockey than no hockey at all and you never know supporting the Glads could lead to the AHL coming to the area at some point.

That sucks. I still remember, and mind you this was years ago when I still lived in Idaho, the Steelheads and Gladiators often met in the playoffs. Always seemed like a good team and fun to watch despite it being ECHL.

Yeah in their 10 year history of being in Gwinnett they've made the post season 8 out of those 10 years, have captured 3 division titles, 1 conference title which gave them so far their only Kelly Cup final appearance.

Do you know if Mobile still has an arena? I think it would be a nice gesture to the city where the Glads came from if they were to have say a preseason game there one year.

Yep. Only problem is (and this existed back in the days of the Mystics too...) the arena isn't NHL sized.... It's 185 x 85 ice surface

I believe that's the same ice dimensions that the Municipal Auditorium had...and they hosted quite a bit of minor hockey.

I could see it working for preseason.
