Sign Bickell, Ference, Bordeleau
Trade for Boyle

Hall - Nugent-Hopkins - Eberle
Paajarvi - MacKinnon - Yakupov
Bickell - Horcoff - Hartikainen
Bordeleau - Boyle - Brown
Petrell, Smithson

Gardiner - J. Schultz
Smid - Petry
Ference - N. Schultz
Fistric

It just may be 3 years longer than he may want to wait for it to pay big dividends.

With impatience comes mistakes. He better not be starting off his tenure by making a big mistake just because he bodly expressed to all of us that he is a man of action. Every GM in the league is going to test his mettle over the next 6 months. Sometimes inaction is frustrating. But its still better than getting hosed in value on a stupid short sighted trade just trying to back up your false bravado.

I don't think he's just going to move that top pick for nothing. It will be for something that can help us now and long-term.

This team has spent enough time being patient and as MacT has stated it's time to start making the bold moves.

Maybe they don't move the #1, but they will explore that option as they should.

In 2-3 years,

Hall - RNH - Yakupov
Lucic - Gagner - Eberle
XXX - XXX - Paajarvi
XXX - XXX - XXX

Smid - Petry
Klefbom - J Schultz
XXX - XXX

They got two 1sts for Kessel. So 1st prospect, contract and a 2nd doesn't seem like an overpayment.

Leafs fan coming in peace. I noticed the Gardiner/Gagner proposal and thought I'd give a Leafs perspective. To be honest, even if Bozak leaves as a UFA, we don't have an urgent need for another centre unless he's a cut above everyone else or he's a top 6 centre with size. If Bozak leaves, I'd assume Kadri would bump up to the 1st line and Grabovski would be able to return to the 2nd line. McClement would centre the 3rd line.

Plus, Gardiner is a big piece of our defense going forward and if he was moved, I'd assume it'd be for a top 6 centre with size (which everyone seems to be looking for...).

That's not to say I'm against having Gagner on the Leafs necessarily, but he'd be more of the same.

Maybe you are right. I hope so, cause I'd do that trade every day of the week.

In 2-3 years... With those top 7 forwards, I don't think those 4 D will drag them down.

If so, then I wouldn't want him. He's a risk with that contract. I'd be ok going as high as Gagner++ for him, but not Eberle.

But I am not sure I agree. I doubt any other team would put an Eberle level guy on the table either. I don't see Kane or Benn being offered for example.

The pick will be 1st overall.

We will tank to the point that we'll finish 28th or 29th,then we'll end up winning the draft lottery and selecting Seth Jones.

If we fall into the top 5, we stand a not insignificant chance of this happening. Jones would be a dream. As would the insanity that would hit HF if the Oilers won the lottery again.

On a non Lucic note, I agree that Stewart would also be a fantastic target, it the asking price for Milan was indeed Eberle.

I wonder though if we end up getting Seth Jones if that will pretty much mean that Petry will be done as an Oiler.

sad isn't it. Calgary is having the worst year they've ever had, flirting with a top 3 pick, and there is a fair chance they will still finish higher in the standings than edmonton.

sure shows how the rebuild is going under lowe and tambo.

also shows how useless top picks are if you don't properly build a team around them.
I can't see how yet another top 3-5 pick should give anyone cause for celebration, with the holes the Oilers still have.

I think the Oilers can finish roughtly where they are, around 24th or 25th in the league.
~sigh~ maybe I'm being too positive.

If MacT is serious about building depth, then no.

No. For one thing, Jones would need time to develop. Also, even Jones isn't enough. They would need at least one more D next year.

Lucic may be a possible healthy scratch next game. Guess he heard that MacT was interested in him and has started to lower his value so that the Oilers can acquire him a lot cheaper.

I wouldn't go with those pairings right away, but my god would that be nice to see. Give it a few years and that's one of the best defenses in the league.

This is what I would be thinking:

A few years from now

Ladislav Smid-Seth Jones
Oscar Klefbom-Justin Schultz
Nick Schultz-Ryan O'Byrne

ex.Mark Fistric

Jeff Petry moved to improve the size issue with our forwards.

Milan Lucic might be a healthy scratch tomorrow. Does MacT pursue him big time? He mentioned him by name in the presser. Could be a buy low situation...

I have a feeling we will finish at 26th but considering our schedule and those of the other bottom teams i can see us falling to 29th.
HF boards should be prepared for us to win the lotto again and this site exploding from the backlash.
If I was HF i might even shut down for a couple days if Oilers get a top 2 pick. lol.

I think if MacT is picking 1-3 he might trade to move down. Pick up a strong asset in the process. If the Oilers feel Klefbom is the better asset as our top D in the system, and Marincin is at or above Jones. I dont think we will have an interest in Nate; Barkov , Monahan i think is what we want. If you can grab a decent blue chip PLUS the player you wanted to begin with (a middle 6 large framed centre --which we do NOT have anywhere in the system) by just flipping the pick you got for sucking the last 6 games than i am ok with it. The prospect would have to be special though in addition to the flipped pick.
Like if Ottawa had 8th and gave up Stone to go to #3 I would do it. ESPECIALLY if Jones and Nate go 1-2 and leave Barkov and Monahan still unpicked and us sitting within 5 picks.

I know OTT is not going to be at 8th.
