I don't think I've seen a thread where the clear lesser players are getting jerked off this hard.

Ray Shero said himself he doesn't listen to offers for Malkin. And he's an NHL GM. So whoever said earlier in the thread about why someone else isn't one, well you aren't either. Thank god Shero is though.

You said every team needs a Voynov. The Pens do not. He's better than any of our defensemen save Letang and Martin, but he's a luxury we don't require.

You know, like how Malkin's a fantastic player who would make any team better, but he's not a need for the Kings? Yeah. It's not a commentary on the player's talent level, but on the team's organizational make-up.

Precisely. Why is this so hard for people to grasp? Shero didn't work to build the best prospect blueline in the NHL so he could trade the second best player in the world just to get another friggin' defenseman. Jesus.

And 26 year old Conn Smythe winners, MVPs, and two-time scoring champs are worth so much less, evidently.

1. If Crosby and Malkin are healthy = Cup favorites
2. If Crosby and/or Malkin are injured = In big trouble
Yeah, the Pens have really suffered this year when one or both of them has been out.

people who don't watch the Pens still think these are all true:

1. the Pens have absolutely no offense without Crosby and/or Malkin
2. the Pens' defense is still horrible
3. Fleury isn't an NHL-quality goaltender

that's not even including all of the complaints they have of the Pens' players. to stay on topic, i'll repeat my earlier sentiment: right now, Voynov is NOT better than Martin or Letang. he very well could be better than one (or maybe even both) of them one day but that day is not today. also, the Pens have one of the deepest defensive prospect pools in the entire league. this deal doesn't make sense for either team.

As good as Malkin is I am surprised that Pens fans would not be all over this.

Kopi would slid into Malkin's spot and provide 80-90 points and 200 foot play.

Voynov is on his way to being an all-star caliber dman. Even with Letang and Martin he improves your defense greatly.

Throw in two 1st overall.

I would think Shero would have no problem sending off Gino for that package.

Its not only about quality but also structure. Right now we are built like a team that has a great locker room and is a good place to play in. Trading malkin would just disrupt on top of it chemistry. Malkin made neal into a 40 goal scorer, as good as kopitar is he doesnt make people around him better at the degree geno does.

He plays 200 feet of the ice and is one of the best at doing it, all while consistently putting up numbers that are just under a point per game. He's easily a top 10 center in this league. With that said, Malkin is a great offensive talent. His skill level is almost unmatched. The only issue is that he's nowhere near as good as Kopitar defensively. I've watched a lot of Pittsburgh games where Malkin seems to just loft around on the ice instead of going after the puck, and back checking. I know that I'm speaking with a little bit of homerism because the Kings are my team, but I would find it very hard to let Malkin go for Kopitar straight up. He fits and works in our system so well, and his chemistry, although it took a long time, has finally come together with Brown and Williams as his wingers. On top of that you want Voynov and some draft picks? I would imagine that Dean would laugh and hang up if Shero called and offered that. Voynov is probably better than any defenseman on the Penguins not named Letang or Martin, and he's still getting better.

Anyways, I think the main point that I'm getting at here is that Malkin is better than Kopitar overall, but not by much. I think that the intangibles, work ethic, defensive play, commitment to the Kings, and the fact that he fits in with our system so well is more than enough for the Kings to say no, even if it were straight up. I also don't think that Malkin would score over 100 points playing for LA, but that's just me.

HEy you kings fans, you don't get MVP and A Conn Smythe by cherry picking on offense... Just an FYI! Can Kopitar at least try to get on of the two MVP Trophies!...

The last 10+ years Conn Smythe winners have damn good two way play other then being a goalie
