Malkin's 2 week notice.

Since malkin used the governments 2 week notice law to escape his contract in russia it poses a potential question to me. Would an NHL player be able to use the same clause ( it is a law here too) to get out of an nhl contract?

Depends what the contract says.

When you sign an employment contract in the US (and, I believe, Canada) the provisions of that contract can supercede the general labor laws (Federal and State) that are designed to protect ordinary, non-exempt employees. The standard SPA provides that the player will only play hockey for the club he signs with, or where he is loaned or assigned by that club.

Russia, with its history of labor-oriented governments, may have laws which an employment contract cannot supercede.
