Ruslan Fedotenko Not Happy With Role on Team

Saw a few people the last few days wanting to resign Rusty. Looks like the chances are close to none.

Quote:
What Fedotenko isn’t is a happy player. No one is crazy about the idea of missing the playoffs, but Fedotenko, 33, indicated he feels a bit shortchanged because he desires “a bigger role” with the Flyers. He revealed this Thursday morning when asked if he was interested in re-signing with the club.

“I don’t know,” Fedotenko said. “I’m definitely disappointed. I wanted to be a bigger offensive contributor; score goals ... maybe be used on the power play.”

“But I understand,” he said. “I’m a professional. I know they want me out there against other teams’ top players. ... They do their job and I need to do my job. My job is to do whatever they tell me to do.”

While Rusty has done a good job on the PK and such, he should understand he isn't an offensive player.

what a contradiction. if you were the professional you say you are, this quote wouldn't exist.

the correct answer would have been "i do what I'm most useful to the team doing" from the get go.

He's not an offensive player and I get why he's not used as such but at the same time I would be pretty disappointed too when Briere gets rewarded with playing time for no apparent reason. If it were up to me Briere would be scratched the rest of the season to make sure he doesn't get injured and prevent an amnesty.

He had 20 points last year and he expected power play time? I think the Rangers incompetent PP might have altered his expectations a little bit...

All his" offensive" days are behind him. It's not like he had a bigger role in New York? The most points he ever scored in the NHl was 50 points and that was his rookie season. He's hit 40 points once. How does he figure he is an offensive player lol? Maybe someone should show him his stat history.

I know it happens and Philly has pretty crazy media coverage but I don't recall another NHL coach who has had so many issues with his players leaked out (Brind'Amour, Richards, Carter, Carrillo, Bryzgalov and now potentially Fedotenko). I'm sure other players are unhappy too, like Couturier, as it came out last week that Laviolette thinks of him more as a checking line center.

At this point IMO drama is a factor to consider too. Enough with all this

I doubt he'd be unhappy if his team were in the playoffs. But why would he expect to be used on the PP unless management told him he would be? He should know he wasn't brought in for his offensive game

Bingo. He's simply a role player, especially at this point in his career. I like what he brought in his role, but if he's not happy playing it, the team is better off without him.

Did he seriously think that he'd be on the PP and have an offensive role? Or was that a stupid promise from Homer when he signed him? Either way, Feds is good at what he's doing right now. PK and shut down the opponents offensive threats, nothing else.

well, looks like he won't be back.

I like Fedotenko, but if he expects a larger role, he's crazy. At this point in his career, he's a bottom 6 forward that can play on the PK.

Tortorella comes to mind.

Do you have a link to the Couturier quote? I missed it.

Oh well. He's been really good defensively, too.

This is why Lavi's stint here has run its course......but again not surprising..he wears on players.

I just find it ironic how much out of the way Briere is going in his public pronouncements of support for Lavi. Last night when asked why the Flyers can't solve the Devils and if he saw a problem with Lavi's system...he said it's not Lavi and that in practice he's tried to communicate a bunch of strategies to counter what the Devils are doing. Maybe so...but I haven't seen it manifest on the ice (1-8 since the playoffs) and if it's because some players are on board with the strategy and others are not..well then that is a problem in itself since he doesn't have complete buy in which seems pretty obvious to me but maybe this is "over analysis."

Good defensively.

If he doesn't like being used on the PK then he can be shown the door.

I think the entire Flyers line-up has been pretty offensive this season.

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

Seems like this is taken out of context, something that happens a lot with players who don't have a nuanced understanding of the English language.

I think he is more disappointed in his own play, not in what role he gas been given.

He played all situations and contributed big time on his KHL team during the lockout.
But KHL play does not always translate to the NHL.
Get over it Rusty!

The whole team has struggled, noone can be happy with how this has turned out.

He said he wanted to be used on the powerplay. How is that out of context?

Let this guy go. He's a dime a dozen player who thinks he's better than he really is because he's had the fortune of being on a couple of SC winning teams. Adam Hall can replace him.

Why does Rusty think he deserves PP time? He's a great defensive forward and PK'er. That's about it. He can't really score, he misses the net alot or chest snipes.

I don't blame him for being unhappy. He thought he was picking a team that was going someplace. And if it was, he'd be a big part of it.

Placing 4th line for a tank commander can't be fun.

Homer should have traded him for a pick a the deadline. We don't need to bring him back if we're keeping Talbot, and possibly resigning Hall to play 4C,PK,TierTwoToughGuy.
