It would be a surprise if the last place team ends up with the 1st overall pick.

That said, 2nd isn't a bad spot to be in this draft.

But who else can finish 30th besides Colorado? And they take Jones all day.

Why would it be a surprise? The 30th team usually does win it. And the last two years they haven't won it, so the odds are with the 30th place team this year haha.

100% chance. Colorado will pick Jones.

I mean, even If Mackinnon is little bit better player, I think in this case Colorado have to pick Jones. Their defense is just so horrible. They have plenty of centers though.

Another loss would eliminate 4 more teams from the list and we would have to win out to be in front of the Preds! Lets do it!

Yeah I think a lot of people are forgetting we can easily lose the first pick the odds are heavily against us even if we finish last

I'm guessing it would be more like the FLA-ATL deal in 2002.

Quote:
Florida trades third-round pick (No. 82 overall, later traded) and 2003 fourth-round pick to Atlanta for Thrashers' promise not to draft Jay Bouwmeester at No. 2 overall on June 22, 2002

I think you are referring to the Panthers trading down two spots from #1 (Nash) to #3 (Bouw) for the "option of swapping picks with Colombus" - which they never exercised...

Then they made the trade with Atlanta to keep them from drafting the player who never wanted to come here.

The Florida Panthers are the only team in pro sports history who traded assets for the opportunity to draft in a later position.

They traded
----the 1st overall pick
----a 3rd round pick
----a 4th round pick
----a ping pong ball in the Crosby draft (one out of their three)

for

----the third overall pick - and the opprtunity to draft a player who never wanted to be here

It still really boggles the mind.

^I reference that trade all the time. People talk about the Luongo deal, but that was among the stupidest of all time too. In theory it was probably one of the worst in sports history.

Yeah but a team other than Florida or Colorado could win the lottery.

1. PHI - Jones
2. FLA - Mackinnon
3...who cares?

I know, but what if Florida finishes 29th, and Colorado finishes 30th, which could happen...and then another team wins the lottery. That's why I said 50% chance of drafting MacKinnon and not 100%.

Watching Russia - Finland at the U-18. Nichushkin has had an ok game, but the physical gifts are very evident. Down low or off the rush the Finns can't handle him very well.

Haven't seen much of Buchnevich nor Lekhonen for the Finns. Saros the Finn Goalie (Top ranked European Goaltender) has been pretty solid.

If we end up last, we only got 25% of keeping the 1st overall pick. 75% for drafting 2nd.

Also mentioned the old Canadians team and how they were stacked at defense as well as the Capitals of the 80's/90's with Langway and their ultra talented defense. He talked about mac very briefly as well saying he is obviously talented and is the top line center we need and have been looking for. Ignored Drouin completely. I got the impression he wants Mac but would not be upset taking Jones and building a high end defense like the aforementioned teams.

We will end up last. We will likely not get first pick (75% of NOT getting it), instead we will get the second pick. Jones will be taken. We will take MacK. Fo sure.

4 teams crossed off the list ( NJ, PHI, EDM, CGY)

Have to win out to be in front of Nashville which of course is not going to happen.

Predicting next loss..Boston tomorrow. Bad one . Really bad.

I dont think Tallon is going to pick Jones if we have the first pick. I remember during his past interviews, how he said that we need help up front. I actually think that he is going to take Drouin. No evidence to that, its just my opinion. We cant go wrong with Jones, Drouin, or Mac, but I think the only way we get Mac is if Jones and Drouin are already gone, unfortunately.

Boston lost today so hopefully they come out hard tomorrow, they are fighting for the Northeast division.

I know he has often said that he loves offense, but he's also said that he loves smooth skating defensemen who can get the puck out of trouble. I think it will come down to who they think is the BPA, and most people think that's Jones. Santos' ballad to Jones during the intermission didn't make me doubt that any more. One can make the argument that the Panthers would use misdirection in regards to who they have at #1, but it is just a game intermission interview.

I really don't think they want Drouin, he's the farthest away from making an impact IMO and he's small, they need more big players with speed on the team.
