I can still see us landing Barkov just by looking at the rest of our games.
ANA, ANA, CHI, MIN, VAN

That has to be the toughest schedule in the league for the last week

Two teams that I think will pass us (giving us the fifth pick) are the Flames and Lightning.

Its obvious that the oilers are trying to get into the 3-5 spot and win the lottery, they have already won the lottery in the 1 and 2 spot, so now they are taking on a greater challenge.

But honestly I could see them trading up to grab barkov.

we'll have to go something like 1-4 or 0-5 to finish 5th last... i suppose that it's possible, but it's certainly not very likely

When it comes to sucking, years past have shown us that nothing is impossible with this franchise.

Hypothetical: If we managed to get another first round pick in the 10-20 range, who would you pick?

It's possible to identify with more than one nation; it's not that black and white.

I am a perfect example, being both Canadian and American.

Depends. If they get Mac, Barkov or Monahan with their first pick then I'd want one if Nurse, Zadorov, or Hagg.

If they pick a D first then I want a C next.

Yeah. Agreed. I know Morrissey is a bit of a polarizing figure on this board, but I'd love to get Monahan and Morrissey.

I wouldn't be upset with Monahan and Lazar either. They need centres bad.

Monahan and Pulock, with our early 2nd I take Fucale or trade both our 2nd's to trade up and get him if theres rumors he's going earlier. Coming out of the draft with Monahan, Pulock, and Fucale would be HUGE for this organization. Would be our best draft in a long time IMO.

Between 20 and 30.. I'd roll the dice on Max Domi!

Despite his ancestry, I think he'll drop to the 2nd round.

That's quite a risky dice roll, imo.

edit: he is intriguing though

That would be great but it's not happening. We hope for trades up every draft and it never happens because it's too pricey. If anything, i see MacT trading away draft picks for players, even the 1st rounder so i don't see trading up in the draft being an option.
If we could get just Monahan (Barkov is a pipedream at this point), anything else would be gravy.

O I agree, I think Mac-T trades the 1st for immediate help which is the right thing to do at this point. But if we got those 3 players it could potentially turn into a franchise changing draft, but then again it could turn into one of our worst draft ever like 2003.

I got it...

-Oilers get pick in 5-7 range
-Oilers trade 5-7 pick + Gagner to Carolina for 3rd pick + McBain
-Oilers trade Eberle to FLA for 1st pick

1st- EDM (MacKinnon)
2nd- COL (Jones)
3rd- EDM (Drouin)

Hall-RNH-Yakupov
Drouin-MacKinnon-Hemsky
Paajarvi-Horcoff-Jones
Petrell-Smithson-Brown

Smid-Petry
Klefbom-J. Schultz
N. Schultz-McBain

Dubnyk
UFA

Oilers win all the Cups...

Please oh please don't remind me of 2003. I'm still not over that disaster.
How about 2007 with three picks in the top 21 and only ending up with one legit NHLer (although Nash is doing ok) who probably won't be with the team much longer.

If we can end up with a strong 2 way center with our 1st rounder, that's a win IMO. I can't emphasize how badly this team needs a player like Monahan, those guys aren't easy to get outside of the draft. This is their best chance to get a top 6 center.

Have you looked at our schedule? I would put money on us finishing at the VERY most 2-3.

Anybody know anything about Nikita Zadorov's game? Kid is huge. Shoots left, does he play left D? Does he play big? Drop the gloves? Had a bad experience earlier in Calgary and absolutely hates the Flames? Looks like someone rated highly in about where we may be picking. Looks intriguing.

From what I've read, he has good offensive instincts, good legs, and loves big hits; however, he's a bit lost defensively sometimes, but that may be in part due to the language barrier.

Do you think the Oilers would consider taking Cody Corbett with a fifth or sixth rounder this year? I came away from yesterday's Oil Kings game quite impressed with the improvement in his play over the same time last year.

I'm pretty sure I said it right before the season started, and I'm holding by my statement. We end up finishing in a position to draft 9th, but end up winning the lottery. Seth Jones is ours.

You don't need to be top 5 to win the lottery and pick first anymore. Better odds but the 5 spots rule doesn't apply anymore.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought I heard that for this season only they were gonna use the old draft lottery system..next year and beyond the new system..
