Looked like a pretty straight forward hip check to me.

I agree with Beef, there was no need to lower himself. He could've just thrown a regular hit.

McQuaid has 5 inches and 20+ pounds on Cooke.

Dunno. Didn't think it was particularly dirty.

EDIT--for some reason, took Marchand's measurements the first time, but honestly, if that wasn't Matt Cooke, I don't think we'd be talking about the hit.

I don't see anything wrong with that hit at all. it looks like McQuaid maybe got his groin crunched in his cup or something. It looked like a nothing hit.

That's almost always a shoulder to shoulder bump. When Cooke does something that isn't really expected and a player is shaken up or hurt as a result, I find it impossible to give Cooke the benefit of the doubt. He lost that ages ago.

I didn't say it was dirty. It wasn't. I just don't think it was necessary to lower himself.

Saw this in the fight thread.

By far the best illustration of the Penguins "toughness" I've ever seen.

Cooke would have came up on the worse end of a regular hit with McQuaid. Though I agree, he doesn't really need to "back into him" like he seemed to do there. Should have been an east-west hip check to be 100% clean

I hate Cooke as much as the next guy, but to get shoulder-to-shoulder contact, he would have had to jump into the hit--and then it would be a whole different conversation.

How appropriate that it is #24 who delivers the hit, aviods the fight and then gets his ass kicked, considering his Pens counterpart...

Sure, but I don't believe he truly needed to go low on him. It certainly wasn't expected. Smaller players run into larger players all the time without getting taken out, or without needing to go low on them.

Shades of Rob Brown on that play. I rather get pummeled than run away especially after I just threw a questionable hit.

Islanders win in a shootout.

Meh. Doesn't really matter. I don't think we will pass the Jets anyway.

Now...do we mean for the POs, or for the tank?

Well it looks like the only game left besides our's with tank implications on the line is the Phoenix/Chicago game.

Just as the main combatants are disappearing from the screen, 24 gets hay-baled by his much bigger aggressor.

We might soon live in a world where the Leafs, Islanders, Blue Jackets, and artists-formerly-known-as-Thrashers are in the playoffs, and the Red Wings, Flyers, and Devils won't.

Hey guys leafs fan here congrats on the win tonight, great to see Wayne Simmonds get the Hattie tonight, he's one of my favourite players and a Toronto boy!!
Anyways just had a quick question about JVR, I just wanted to know if he's always done that chewing his mouth guard thing, or is it something he's picked up here. I know it sounds like a stupid question but it really gets on my nerves lol.

He's always done that.

His stupid 14 year old spiral tape job makes me more angry though.
