Nope and I don't blame them. They have playoff aspirations.

Mason can't lose. If the Flyers drop this game, he's simply participating in the tank.

Five reasons to keep and five reasons to get rid of Bryz...

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/...203928871.html

Quote:
Reasons to keep Bryzgalov

1. By having Bryzgalov and Mason, the goalies would push each other in an attempt to win the starting job.

2. A more-than-capable backup would be waiting in the wings in case of an injury to the starter.

3. Money. To buy out Bryzgalov, the Flyers would have to pay him $23 million - two-thirds of the remaining seven years ($34.5 million) on his contract.

4. Teams are allowed a total of two buyouts over the next two offseasons. If Mason wins the job and regains his rookie-of-the-year form from 2008-09, the Flyers can always buy out Bryzgalov next year. If Mason struggles, then Bryzgalov is an attractive option.

5. Keeping Bryzgalov would be a reward of sorts for his workhorse season. He is not the reason the Flyers have failed to make the playoffs.

Reasons to buy out Bryzgalov

1. The goalie's zany personality can be a distraction to his teammates. To restore order, buy him out and use his annual cap hit ($5.7 million) to sign/acquire a quality winger or puck-moving defenseman.

2. The buyout is expensive, but it can be spread over 14 years (twice the remaining length of his contract). If you average it out, it's $1.6 million per year.

3. Cutting ties with Bryzgalov would send a confidence-building message to Mason: You are our guy.

4. In his brief time here, Mason seems to have developed a quick rapport with goalie coach Jeff Reese, who has tweaked the goalie's game by moving him back in the crease to utilize his 6-foot-4 frame. Mason seems to exude confidence.

5. Even though he has already played five seasons, Mason is just 24. Goalies have been known to bloom later in their careers. (See Parent, Bernard). In addition, Mason is more athletic than Bryzgalov, better at steering a puck to a teammate to start a rush, and better at stopping breakaways.
Good points on both sides.

Haha, like clockwork. That seems to be what Reese does with everyone he gets.

It could probably work for Mason though. He seems to have better reflexes than Bryzgalov, so maybe it'll help? I don't know.

push each other for the starting job? Like with Bobrovsky last year? yeah how did that go again. Not sure how Bryzgalov is an "attractive option" He isnt with that horrible contract.
Bryzgalov isnt the reason the Flyers made the playoffs. not by himself but he was part of the problem. if Bryz wasnt the problem then either was Briere.

I remember reading that Reese also told Leighton to move back in his crease that year we went to the finals.....

Even if Bryz was to waive is NMC, is his contract even tradeable at this point?

I just can't see any team truly having interest.

I think he likely has negative value at this point. Based on his play and contract, we would need to pay someone to take him. I'd prefer a trade, but I think the org would actually be better off shelling out the cash.

We have paid a fair bit of the contract already, any chance the Yotes may take him back ? He may even agree to go back there ?

i'd way rather pay bryzgalov for one more year than have briere takin up space for an even bigger cap hit. i think brzygalov with some changes to the roster and a good backup can give us a good year next season but briere looks to just be completely done on this team.

I believe he burned quite a few bridges with the players there.

Yes, many former players here spoke quite negatively about him after he left. Besides we can't take him back, because we're a welfare team and we can't afford his $6million salary the next two seasons.

I can't see any team taking him, however given the situation, I could see Bryz waiving to go anywhere. I can't imagine he is enjoying himself in Philly (or would moving forward when people got wind of the fact that he wouldn't waive).

ehh, we still owe him $34.5m over the next 7 years. I think it might be easier to trade him after next season, since we'll only owe him $26.5m over the next 6 years, which is still a lot. He may be good for a team with an internal budget, but with his NMC our options are limited.

I can't see any team being interested in him, which is why he'll most likely get amnestied next summer instead

especially now with his crappy reputation in the locker room. play on the ice and a bad contract is one thing but if your an a hole on top of it. i was reading all the quotes from the coyotes players after he left and it sounds real familiar. its just one more reason stacked on to too many other reasons. i just think they'll try for next year because they did make a long term investment in the guy. but what we'll owe him is a teaspoon in the ocean. comcast spectator makes 4 billion a year in revenue. as long as they look at every option. next year can't be "we'll see what happens". we need to go in prepared to win the cup. He needs to prove to them that he's devoted and on board to win regardless of what might happen summer 2014.

I think that Bill Clement said it best that Mason is more athletic then Bryz, The difference really to me is that Bryz seems most times talking to Media that he just doesn't give a **** and Mason seems like he thinks about the game all the time, Mason can make some great tough saves, hoping Jeff Reese can get him back to his best, who are the best goalie coachies we've ever had?
