It is a shame seeing how many people are willing to move Nino so quickly. The kid is going to be a top six forward. Just because Nelson is appearing to progress at a bit of a faster rate, that doesnt take anything away from a very solid season that Nino is having him self. I fore one have seen strides in his overall game.

I wouldn't trade Nino, I would let him compete for a spot in trading camp, if anything start him off at Bridgeport, and Nino will be the first call up.

Nino is the type of player every successful team has. He's immature for sure but that's no reason to sell a top 5 pick out the door when his stock is this low...he goes NOWHERE until we get a much better look at what type of player he can be.

Can't disagree with the Nino angle...you have to wonder what value Garf and co. place on these young prospects, and where they sit in value compared to each other...the forwards in order of recall and NHL readiness...

Ullstrom (has shown what he can do...injured at the wrong time...still)
Nelson (wow, what more can you say...3rd line centre next year, bye bye Aucoin)
Nino (in limbo...attitude will be everything going forward...if others develop: traded)
Strome (highest ceiling...rest ahead physically, no rush...1st line centre for '13-14 BST)

Yup, and Sundstrom will be the forward everyone is jumping up and down about next year.

With good reason, as you well know...excellent numbers to go with a 200 foot game- what do you think his numbers would have been like without the injury trouble?

We really are spoiled with this prospect pool.

Just curious how is Nino in limbo? He is the top goal scorer as a 20 year old at the Bridge and very possibly can make the team next year. To me someone like Petrov or Kichton are in limbo.

i wouldn't prefer strome, myself. it is just highly unlikely that the isles win a bidding war for a quality free agent like ryder...so i'm with you on that part of it.

I haven't watched Nino but reports from some of our BPort watchers say he is not a polished, complete player even in the AHL. Stats are not the story here, play away from the puck, board battles, defensive work, skating are the issue with Nino hat still is not near NHL quality for a top 9 forward.

I would agree with this unless the islanders can get what they want by packaging him for a top 6 forward or a top 4 d-man. He really doesn't fit for this team next year with so many rookies coming in already. I feel strome and now nelson, and even lee have moved ahead of him as terms of nhl readiness. Im not saying trading him for a draft pick but if we can get a solid young player i say go for it.

I kinda wanna see the Swede line kept intact. Persson is my dark horse candidate to be the best of what's down there.

Ullstrom wont be in Bridgeport next year, he would have to clear (be exposed to) waivers. Persson and Sundstrom might stay together though.

Hey gents,

just some random questions. It is obvious that Anders Lee won't be seeing any playing time now that we are in the middle of a playoff run. Joensuu and Reasoner seem to be ahead of him. With that said, contractually speaking, are the Isles allowed to send him to Bridgeport to help the Sound Tigers in their quest to make the playoffs?? Even if Lee isn't sent down, or doesn't see any ice time the rest of the way, I certainly think it will help him heading into training camp just seeing the intensity and effort it takes to make a playoff push in the NHL, as well as learn that he is going to have to battle really hard just to earn a spot next year.......... But if they could send him down to Bridgeport for the final 5 or so games and battle for a playoff spot, by all means send him.

I noticed Finley hasn't been listed as a healthy scratch lately. Is he on the inactive/injured list?? He is another guy that Bridgeport could use for the final week or so if he wasn't injured. Is he eligible to be sent down yet??

Lastly, when Brian Streit is ready, will he be able to play a few games at Bridgeport (if Bridgeport is still indeed playing)?? I believe even if he has a one-way contract, he is allowed to play a certain amount of games in the AHL as he is rehabbing an injury......... Do you guys see him working his way back into the lineup for the playoffs, or is that way too risky in throwing off the chemistry of a defense that is performing quite well.....

A real exciting playoff run and the prospect of our most competitive training camp in over 20 years come September.... it's about time..... Go Isles!!!!!

I don't want to get ahead of myself in thinking of next year's camp. I want to enjoy every second of this playoff run, but when looking at the prospects knocking on the door, next year's camp is going to be super competitive!!

Perhaps this off-season, with the cap being lowered and our prospect pool being so deep, we could actually snag a legit 1st line winger for Tavares.... But even if we stand pat, lets take a look.....

Moulson Tavares Okposo

Martin Bailey Strome

Grabner Neilsen B. Nelson

Ullstrom Cizikas A. Lee

Nino N Sundstrom Joensuu

Moulson??? N. Niederreiter??? Joensuu???

Gone: Boyes, Aucoin, Boulton

Defense:

Viznovsky Hamonic

MacDonald Streit

Hickey Carkner

Strait Donovan

Finley De Haan

Damn, that is deep!!

It's time to trade a few of these forwards and D-men for a winger to play with Tavares.....

Anders had some leverage in that he could have become a FA after his college season ended. It has been speculated by some fans on this board that Garth and Anders (rather his agent) have a handshake deal that keeps Anders in the NHL for the rest of the year. I guess if he doesn't play 6 games it doesn't burn a year off of his ELC, but either way, getting an NHL paycheck vs. an AHL paycheck should be pretty nice.

Finley has been injured (although there was some speculation at the time of it being *weneedarosterspotitis* (as one poster put it), however, I think rosters are expanded now so he could have been pulled off of IR if he wasn't actually injured.

Strait is back skating, I'm pretty sure he can get some rehab games in, but I doubt it. The Islanders didn't give Jonessuu and Bailey any rehab games, and both out since even before the season. I'm sure Strait will work his way into the lineup sooner or later.

i dont know lee, only saw him twice, but he doesnt seem nhl ready right now. Good that we signed him, even if he forced us to send him to the nhl, but i cant see what you are talking about in regards to looking readier than nino.

The isles need an upgrade at the 1st line rw spot, they need an upgrade at the 2nd line center spot and with Moulson scheduled to become a ufa in 2014, they may need a 1st line lw after 2014.

How can anyone say Nino doesn't fit this team next year, with so many rookies coming in already?

What exactly have Strome/Nelson/Lee done at the pro level, for them to be penciled automatically onto next season's NYI roster?

How about letting these prospects go to training camp and compete for roster spots, earn them?

Joey Diamond Future NY Islander or career AHL player?

Whats the feeling around here on the Islanders signing Joey Diamond? Anyone think Diamond might be a future NY Islander/NHL player? Jason Diamond seems to play like a combination of Jason Blake and Sean Avery. Agree or disagree with that comparison?
