I'm very surprised that Holtby isn't getting any attention on the main board, he has been phenomenal for us, very solid. Under the radar.

Love Holtby. As good as Varly ever was for the Caps.

And it can't be understated how much dominant Ovie boosts this team.

I didn't see anything about it in here, but Johansson's pass on Brouwer's 2nd goal was a beauty. He's been playing great and looks much stronger on the puck lately. Good to see

I missed the second half of the game...awesome to see Ovechkin got #30 too. Count me in for the Islanders, because I'm terrified of Ottawa (and Karlsson) and because I might have some vague chance of going to one of the games.

I'm afraid of Ottawa too. The Islanders are no slouches, but I rather have them than a very defensive team.

Will Ottawa even have Karlsson?

If we play the Islanders it will definitely make for a fun series. They play a fast pace offensive style that could result in a high scoring series.

Dominant Ovechkin and great PP is a medicine for a lot of ailments. This team is going as far as those two can take them.

The PP is huge of course. Oates deserves full credit. I always said Ovi at L point need not be the only way to run our PP. Sure he potted 20 there 5 years ago but it dried up. Now he is looking to pass from that LW circle fav spot. Uh oh.

Passing is one way to beat a great goalie. Ovi has committed to becoming a better passer and its been easy to see (why didn't he shoot!) for years now. Other get credit for improving their games. Has he gotten credit for his improved passing? He is more deceptive than ever and it was in plain view yesterday.

My Paul Coffers are happy with this victory.

I mentioned it. I also agree that he has looked much stronger on the puck lately, and his defensive game seems to be improving with each game. Sometimes I mistake him for Backstrom on the play, which is saying something.

Like the other guy, I was happy to land Tampa in round 2 and assumed Boston would give us a quick first-round exit. Not important who the Caps get in round 1, simply because the goal is not to get out of that round; it's to win the Stanley Cup. The Kings did it going through the 1st, 2nd and 3rd seeds, the top two of which combined for 220 friggin' points. Bring on whichever team ends up in 6th. With Ovi, finally a 2nd line, Holtby in net, a good coach and home ice, we better make it to round 2 for the next challenge.

Nice bounceback game it seems. I actually missed this one but followed it online and saw the highlights.

Habs and Price really struggling since Emelin went down. Subban is the only other D they have who will lay the body. Gorges is a good shot blocker and defender but not physically intimidating.

I did see CSN postgame and the guys were pumping up Erskine.

Holtby creamed both Moen and Hillen on that play. Leave none alive!

Playoffs are an entirely different story. Over the years I cant count how many times I have felt one team had an obvious advantage only to be upset and sometimes in easy looking fashion. RE Ottawa - As good as Anderson has been I don't believe he has ever won a playoff series. Not even in the AHL.

24 in red and hillen were both crashing hard to the net I believe he got the puck on net but holtby went ahead and took them both out before they collided, impressive because he was sitting still and they were coming in hard. He didn't lose a inch.

My bad tex, I see 24 was with olesky after the shove he gave, not sure what happened there

Karlsson is cleared for contact. And realistically it's Alfredsson's last shot. That plus Anderson makes them scary.

And ya, the Caps have only ever beaten Nabakov, what, twice? He's got a lot of playoff demons to exorcise from his years in San Jose. The rest of that team worries me less than OTT, but the goaltending is a real concern.

Quietly the PK has gone 14 straight also. If they can keep up these special teams, no one will stop them in the POs.

isnt that basically the way its supposed to work? the caps will go as for as ov and green and backstrom and holtby can carry them? on the off occasion you get a big play from a joel ward or john carlson but its pretty hard for a team to go more than a round with one of those big 4 off their game.
