I think this thread is ********... it's obvious Kaberle is being bought out, and it should be everyone's choice given his salary, etc.

Now, if your question was "Who's contract hinders the Habs the most for the next few years", I'd have to say Desharnais. But there no way he can be bought out a month after signing.

Desharnais cannot be bought out through compliance, as his is not a contract in effect when the CBA was extended and cap reduced.

Buying out Desharnais, or the Bruins buying out Milan Lucic, will cost cap space.

So, Who would you buy out? The last Kaberle season contract or the idea to play Moen and Bourque for 3 more years is something you cant deal with..
Buy out Kaberle, trade Moen, give Bourque a chance so long as the effort is there. Let him get the rust out.

Desharnais is not going anywhere. He was signed long-term for a reason, the club has made a commitment. Unless he acts like a jerk or something, he is in our Top 9 for 4 years or close to it.

I guess that's what the OP deserves for making such a silly poll.

Ridiculous.

Nevermind any of the hockey reasons why that would be dumb. If you were the slightest bit logical about this, you'd realize that the GM won't buy out his contract extension 20 games later. How would that make him look to Molson ? Just think a little.

I don't know why Desharnais is an option, why would you buy someone out if he's easily tradeable and affordable?

Markov has one year left and is still a serviceable D, Desharnais' contract isn't bad. Kaberle is not an NHL caliber D anymore and is the clear cut favourite to get bought out.

What is wrong with people here??

Let me say this slowly:
David Desharnais
cannot be bought out
under the compliance exception
therefore
buying out Desharnais
will cost cap space

unlike Kaberle, Bourque, Markov, Gionta, Plekanec, Price or Gorges
(to take only those earning over $3M per year)

Not that I think he should be bought out, but does anyone have the details of Moen's modified NTC? I know it ends after next year, but what other clauses are there, if any?

Whether they plan on buying Kaberle out or not I would still play him...I liked the way he played in the few games he did play this season. If he gets injured so what! You put him on the IR and he doesn't count against the cap until he's brought back....and at that time hopefully his value would have increased (especially since it would be the last year of his contract) and a team needing help on defense would want him.
With the way their defense and powerplay is going right now, I would seriously consider resting Markov until the playoffs and put in Kaberle until then!

Kaberle, of course.
Desharnais is tradable, so is Bourque.
Moen will be more difficult but he's not worth it over Kaberle.
