Would you think they are trying Corrado out now just to see if they could refrain from adding salary to their back-end next season by having him and a cheap guy (cheaper than say $1,5mil) alternative in the #6/#7 spot instead of getting that guy having less space to address the forward situation with Roy/Raymond/Booth/etc?

I think they're calling up Corrado because both of their RHS D are out with injury nd they're desperate as hell. He might not even play just getting called up.

No. You can't accurately assess a player in 1-3 games.

Instead of Tanev? The million and a half the Canucks give to alberts is not going to hurt. It's the five million that Tanev should get.

Canucks are not paying three centers five million, either, so forget about Roy.

Booth is apparently done, so the Canucks have a little over $5.7m to spend. That would just cover Roy in a non-cap league. It doesn't cover Tanev and a fourth line.

Really, since they can't shed Luongo, the Canucks need the Sedins to retire or accept a trade. Then they could sign Roy, Tanev and a fourth line and maybe even add a FA to replace Booth.

I think under the circumstances, Corrado and his 599,000 cap hit and right handedness was going to get a shot anyway.

As for Booth, I think his injuries sunk him this year in the eyes of management. They want to dress the best team they can for 64.3 million dollars, and we can't possibly factor in 4.25 million for a player who may or may not even play 40 games in a given season.

But then we also have Ballard and a goalie to move. Lack has a 1 way deal starting next year, and while I like Ballard, especially this shortened season and last playoffs, he is being horribly misused by our coaching staff and is as good as gone...either traded for a secondish round pick, or amnestied.

With the three of them gone, we have over $15,000,000 to spend signing Roy, Raymond, Tanev, 4 warm body forwards, calling up Corrado and Lack, and signing a depth (7th...ish) Dman or two.

Unless I missed a step, I don't think it's over the top to expect to retain Roy.

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER
My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($4.500m)
Chris Higgins ($2.500m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Zack Kassian ($0.870m)
Bill Sweatt ($0.851m) / Derek Roy ($5.000m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.350m)
Mason Raymond ($3.000m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Dale Weise ($0.677m)
Steve Pinizzotto ($0.600m)
DEFENSEMEN
Alexander Edler ($5.000m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m)
Jason Garrison ($4.600m) / Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m)
Chris Tanev ($1.500m) / Frank Corrado ($0.599m)
Cam Barker ($0.500m) / Jim Vandermeer ($0.500m)
GOALTENDERS
Cory Schneider ($4.000m)
Eddie Lack ($0.750m)
OTHER
Buyout: David Booth ($0.000m)
Buyout: Keith Ballard ($0.000m)
Buyout: Roberto Luongo ($0.122m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,218,370; BONUSES: $0
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $81,630

Also, Capgeek was unable to move Luongo, so for some reason, we retained...$122,000 in cap space, so really we have 200K for injury call ups. As with Lu, I'd expect some small interest in Ballard, and possibly even Booth, so if we can get a pick or a prospect, or even a minimum wage kind of player, I'd be satisfied that way instead.

Sedin (6.1) - Sedin (6.1) - Burrows (4.5)
Higgins (2.5) - Roy (5) - Kesler (5)
Torres (1.75) - Schroeder (0.9) - Hansen (1.35)
Weise (0.65) - Lapierre (1) - Kassian (0.87)
Sestito (0.65)

Offense: $36.37M

Hamhuis (4.5) - Bieksa (4.6)
Edler (5) - Tanev (1.5)
Garrison (4.6) - Corrado (0.6)
Drewiske*(0.7) - Sanguinetti*(0.7)

Defense: $22.2M

Schneider (4)
Lack (0.75)

Team: $63.32M

This assumes we trade/buy-out Booth and Ballard and do not receive any salary in return, and trade Luongo for picks and prospects and do not retain any salary. Not an ideal roster, but Schroeder should be even better next season now that he's had some experience from this year, Kassian provides a player who can jump into the top 9 when someone gets injured, Torres provides some added toughness that we have lacked, and that 2nd line can be shifted a bit with Kesler moving back to C, Roy moving to LW, and a RW being bumped up if need be. Solid flexibility, and a bit more rounded team than we have this year.

@ Cogburn, Just nitpicking, but I think you should swap Sweatt and Raymond on those lines. Although to be honest I'd rather see something like this.

I like this roster the best out of any. Really want Torres back, huge mistake letting him go.

why? He is incredibly overrated by us now imo. He is a pretty average third liner. That being said, I would rather him @ 1.75 than Raymond @ 3 mill +

Why? Simple. He brings toughness, grit, and energy that is sorely lacking in our lineup.

Aren't you the guy who constantly *****es about scoring.

Energy and toughness don't put the puck in the net.

Can't afford close to $2m in cap on a energy and toughness.

We aren't going to get a scorer for $2M either, and I also think energy and toughness will lead to more scoring. Far too often I've seen this team just coast and pack it in. Someone like Torres (Clowe would be preferable but I don't see how we can afford him) could help energize this team. Not to mention I could see him creating room for Schroeder and he has shown good chemistry with Hansen in the past.

Yes... His lineup makes great sense trying to state the Schroeder is a proven 3rd liner while Kassian is a 4th liner.

If we re-sign Roy, it technically wouldn't be creating a hole. That said there's no way I do that trade.

meh, guys who can hit and play tough are a dime a dozen. Don't understand the overwhelming love for Torres. It would be nice to get him, but not if we overpay him. We need scoring more than toughness imo.

Weiss at 3.5 mil is a pipe dream. He'll get 5+ on the open market, and Roy will get 6.
