I'm sure we'll see him in OKC next season.

He's a well-rounded prospect.

yeah i think musil makes the jump, but gernat either plays in europe or the ECHL... seems to be lots of talk about gernat needing a lot more seasoning, but that the management team still has high hopes for him

you gotta figure one of marincin, gernat or musil makes it as a top-4 guy... they all have a lot of positive arrows so far and all have the size for the pro-game... we really need one of them AND klefbom to end up as options for the top-4 in 2-3 years from now

Top 4 is a tall order. That said, Marincin has been doing well in his 1st pro season and Musil has NHL size already. If they continue to develop steadily, both should become serviceable NHLers down the road.

Something about Musil just screams "NHLer" to me. Good size already, great defensive smarts, unfortunately no offence. Foot speed will have to improve.

Possibly a Jan Hejda type.

He's got a lot of work to do in that department if he ever wants to be an NHLer..

Not really. It's not like we're talking about Alex Plante. He has a lot going for him. He does need to improve his footspeed, but he reads the game well enough that he doesn't get caught flat footed

In my limited viewings of Musil, I didn't think his skating was that bad. He just seemed to have a tendency to stop moving his feet.

I'm not sure if that's actually the case, but if it is, his skating wouldn't be too hard to "fix".

His skating isn't bad once he's going. He just doesn't have a very good first step

Musil's skating is fine. He's a slowish skater who is strong on his feet and he compensates for it with smart positioning and understanding of where to be.

I haven't been overly impressed with Musil's game since the Oil Kings acquired him. He was fantastic at the World Juniors in 11/12 but he hasn't found a way to re-capture that level of play (yet).

I've seen Musil quite a few times.

His skating is decent, that is all. He's a clock in clock out player. That's what I always saw in him. He won't ever go out and do anything creative or spontaneous. I've never seen it in him. If there is a pass up the boards, he passes up the boards. This is good and bad. He will rarely put you in a bad position with a failed attempt at glory. That being said, he never once looked for a break out pass, or anything similar to that sort.

We all know he's not an offensive defenceman, he wasn't designed to play on the power play. He is a defensive defenceman and the AHL will be excellent for his development the next few seasons.

Ladislav Smid will become a great mentor for the up and coming big defensive defenceman in the system

I think we'll have the best blueline in the AHL next year.

Musil
Davidson
Marincin
Maybe Klefbom
Gernat

Size and skill.
Should be tons of fun!

"Young defense" and "Successful" usually don't show up in the same breath when it comes to professional hockey teams.

AHL rookies: Klefbom, Gernat, Musil
2nd year pros: Marincin, Davidson

Lots of size and skill, but very little experience. Odds are that group struggles more often than not playing against men game in, and game out over the course of a season.

Teubert and Fedun will be in that mix, and probably another AHL vet or two. So my guess is:

(Klefbom)
Teubert
Marincin
Fedun
AHL vet
Musil
Davidson
Gernat
AHL vet

Maybe have Potter down there and let the AHL GM pick up some other vets to supplement.

does he play same side as Gernat? if not, do they ever play together? from what i read about their styles i think they could be just a splendid partnership.
