So, last time we won on the road was March, 12th.
Time before that was February 5th.
How awesome is that, averaging about 3 points on the road, per month.

Yep- since the 6-1 win in St Louis, which now seems like a lifetime ago, we have played 14 road games and won ONE (1-10-3).

Really unbelievable........

Posted in the GDT, but...

Fun fact: Legwand has played only 149 less NHL games then the rest of our forwards combined, if my math is right.

Colorado is losing 3-1 half way through the game, but Calgary just scored the first goal vs. Anaheim.

4-1 Oil. Uggh.

So, where were YOU on this date one year ago? Can you believe in about 30 minutes from this time, Pekka Rinne was stopping a shot, the final horn was sounding, and the Nashville Predators were sending the red menace home until the next hockey season. What a difference a year makes, huh?

A Devils fan on the boards was saying Mark Fayne is in the doghouse in NJ for no appearent reason. From what I've seen, he is a very steady young DFD in the mold of Klein. He was scratched last game, and Devils fans (after saying he's their 2nd best D) apparently think he may get traded.

SK <--> Fayne. Solves our 2nd pairing D problem and gets us 2mil more to go after Weiss/Horton/Stalberg/etc.

I think he'd be great to have on our 2nd pairing, and if nothing else, the perfect shutdown partner for Blum/Ellis. I could be wrong though, don't get the chance to watch him much. Just going off what I hear. If I'm 100% off, my apologizes.

FYI...as of right now, tonight's game is no longer listed on Center Ice. It looks like it was removed from the original channel overnight to accommodate the rescheduled ATL/COL baseball game on systems sharing MLB/Center Ice channels.

While the Preds US contingent for the World Championships as named yesterday, one name you expected to hear, but didn't was Weber playing for Canada. Reason...Team Canada couldn't afford the $800k price tag on his insurance policy. As a result, Weber will not get to play for Canada in this event and now hove gotta wonder about his eligibility for the Olympics as well....

I threw that question to DiPaolo (@ADPreds on ye ol' twitter) and she laughed it off, as that they'd be able to find the money for the Olympics ... I think he'll be there for the Olympics

this year showed how bad we need to gain some depth again. We couldnt handle the loss of Wilson and Fisher longterm. I dont know how to address it but I would hope Poile is trying to do that after this season...

Looks like Rinne was hurt all year. If I remember correctly he got hurt in the KHL, hopefully he heals over the summer.

Wild fans acting like Suter should be a lock for the Norris... which will just go to show that the hockey market you play in matters as much as how you play

For a final review of how the team performed, I put together the pro-rated numbers over a full season (minus games missed for injury, minors time, etc.). To qualify to appear here, a player must have been able to play at least 41 games over the "full" season (which means a minimum of 7 GP). Ties in PPG are broken by an extra decimal place.

First, the forwards:
PlayerPGPPGPAPPTSPPG
C. Wilson591728450.76
P. Hornqvist581024340.58
M. Fisher721921400.56
D. Legwand822122430.52
G. Bourque682210320.47
T. Beck50913220.44
D. Bang42017170.40
S. Kostitsyn80521260.33
B. Butler68814220.32
M. Halischuk711012220.31
C. Mueller5277140.288
N. Spaling81167230.284
C. Smith78714210.27
B. Yip68610160.24
P. Gaustad5757120.21
R. Clune8179160.20

The defensemen:
PlayerPGPPGPAPPTSPPG
S. Weber821533480.59
R. Josi82922310.38
K. Klein81519240.30
V. Bartley58017170.29
J. Blum69212140.20
R. Ellis6648120.18
H. Gill660000.00

And the team, built by PPG:

Wilson-Fisher-Hornqvist
Beck-Legwand-Bourque
Bang-Mueller-Kostitsyn
Halischuk-Spaling-Butler
Smith, Yip

Weber-Josi
Klein-Bartley
Blum-Ellis
Gill

For comparison to mid-season paces, here's February 19th (only players with a point at the time are shown):

PlayerGPGAPTSPPG
C. Wilson822636620.76
P. Hornqvist721248600.83
J. Blum75833410.55
M. Fisher821515300.37
D. Legwand821515300.37
S. Kostitsyn821020300.37
R. Ellis821020300.37
G. Bourque801711280.35
B. Yip801117280.35
S. Weber821015250.30
K. Klein82520250.30
N. Spaling82155200.24
P. Gaustad79612180.23
R. Josi82010100.12
C. Smith82010100.12
R. Clune816060.07
M. Halischuk770660.08

And here's March 24th, sans Wilson, Gaustad, and Hornqvist (all on IR at the time):

PlayerGPGAPTSPPG
T. Beck522626521.00
S. Weber821533480.59
M. Fisher822321440.54
D. Legwand821821390.4756
G. Bourque802711380.4750
S. Kostitsyn80524290.36
R. Josi821120310.37
C. Mueller541414280.52
C. Smith80816240.300
N. Spaling81168240.296
J. Blum72418220.31
B. Yip76912210.27
M. Halischuk73613190.26
B. Butler73316190.26
K. Klein82314170.21
R. Clune8188160.20
R. Ellis81510150.19
V. Bartley590770.12

Obviously not a perfect mode of analysis, but it's interesting to see how Legwand and Fisher got better as the season went along and, ultimately, had seasons right about on par with what they normally do. It kind of reinforces what we're all thinking about our offense, and about the injuries that really derailed the team in the second half of the season.

Great work using the stats to analyze the situation!

There's no doubt the team had a slim margin of error this season and as injuries mounted up, that margin of error disappeared and they just flat out stunk.
