Larsson vs. Carlson

Adam Larsson or John Carlson? Who would you rather have moving forward? (Untapped potential vs. More or less realized potential)

Larsson, easily considering potential.

Carlson is better now, and potential is almost the same

Larsson. Pretty easy pick, I feel like they'll put up similar points with Larsson playing a better defensive game.

I think Carlson is pretty underrated, but I think the world of Larsson, think he'll be a perennial Norris candidate in a few years.

Carlson now but a fair margin.

Larsson in the future by a pretty solid margin.

now that pete debeor has stopped being a ****** with the line orders, and larsson has pretty much secured his spot once again, hes played very well. i guess he hasnt been as afraid of making a mistake and being benched for 5 games anymore. have seen great signs from him. he will be very good.

Carlson's game hasn't improved much since his rookie season. I'd take Larsson.

Although Carlson's playoff performances still make me think he can be a #1 defenceman.

Do people think Carlson has more or less plateau'd, or is there more from him that we haven't seen, whether its offensively or defensively?

Yes. Or even regressed. Sucks on pk especially. Been passable as of late. He wasn't good in regular season last year but was very, very solid in playoffs.

I've seen nothing from Larsson to suggest he's going to be a number 1 defensemen. Yet every time he faces off against an established Dman there he is winning the poll based on "potential" that I've yet to see. I watch a lot of Devils games, maybe he's just been bad/invisible in all the ones I've seen? I'm sure I'm get some angry responses from Devils fans being a Rangers fan but I am just really confused by the hype Larsson gets. I know the kid is young but I've seen more potential out of Dougie Hamilton who is the same age.

Well for one DeBoer halts his progress and play by benching him, not utilizing him correctly, etc. And when he has played consistently, he has been decently impressive. Being only 19, and with defensemen usually not reaching their true potential until later than offensemen, this already shows the ceiling for him seems pretty high. Not to mention the team this year was quite the mess in general.

Basically, Larsson has great potential, and the Devil's can't wait for him to unleash it. This is what I believe.

EDIT: Also, you can usually tell when a team's fans are overestimating a prospect/player's potential when only those fans hype them, but as you can see other team's fans seem to also think highly of Larsson as well. Not that it truly means much, but it counts for something.

Carlson now, but I don't think Larsson is getting a fair shake to really break out yet.

A) Even if you think Larsson is average, it's a major accomplishment to be an NHL dman at 20, let alone 18

B) He has an elite outlet pass and very good vision in the offensive zone

C) Very solid defensively and has a projectable frame

He still looks a bit awkward when he skates, but the dude is 20 years old and will grow bigger and stronger. McD, Girardi and Staal are considered to be "#1 dmen", and only Staal was in the league at 20. Larsson's 18-19 year old season was better than Staal's 20-21 season. Give the kid time.

BTW- Hamilton plays with Chara. I love Andy Greene, but come on
