Look at their prospect pool at center--it isn't pretty.

They have Schultz, Petry, Smid in the NHL and at least two good defensive prospects (Klefbom, Marincin), plus depth guys (Gernat, Musil).

I don't think it is a stretch at all to think they draft a big, shut-down center.

Yeah I think they can go either center of defensemen. It all depends on who's rated higher on their board. That said I would feel a lot more comfortable with them drafting behind us.

I think the Flames could take Nurse. They need everything including a d-man.

Anyone can take Nurse. Teams generally take who they feel is the best available.

They need high-end forwards more, IMO.

They've got Giordano. They are very high on Brodie. I'd be surprised if they passed on Monahan or Lindholm for Nurse--less so if Nichushkin is the alternative.

They need everything so I wouldn't be surprised if they take Nurse with their pick. Of course, I hope Feaster doesn't and reaches for someone. Who knows what that guy will do if he is still GM of Calgary during the draft.

Exactly. People get so caught up in needs. By the time these kids are fully ready to make an impact, the landscape of their teams will be completely different, especially the teams picking high in the draft.

Other than draft that kid about 20+ picks too early last year, what has Feaster done that was that nuts? I'm sure there are things, but I feel like I'm missing something.

- Iginla put him in a tricky spot--it is hard to fault him there.
- Bouwmeester is bit murkier--apparently Detroit offered a better prospect, but no 1st; he opted for the 1st from STL plus two lesser prospects. Maybe that's a mistake--but it isn't a laughably bad mistake.

Anyway, I'm sure there is something obvious that I'm not remembering--someone jog my memory?

EDIT: oh yeah, ROR.

Well, Buffalo tried. Phoenix isn't doing anything.

Not a good night so far. We really need to go 1-2-0 at best over these last three games. The extra two points might be the difference between 8th and 11th. Not likely, but possible.

The oilers doing their daily embarassment routine.

Can't even compete with the ducks in a back to back when both games are at home.

Seth Jones is claimed to be the best defensive prospect since Pronger but he doesn't necessarily play like him.

I think they go forward too in an effort to find a new "face of the franchise"

Let's not forget the Dennis Wideman contract.

He also traded down from the 12th pick to the 21st to take Mark Jankowski. I'm not knocking Jankowski but he's a 5 year project type of player. Staying at their orginal pick they could have gotten some pretty good players that could make an earlier impact for them.

Yup every team wants a "sexy" name that they can market and that almost always is a forward only smart teams and good teams draft dmen with everything else equal

Standings update.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/standings/?show=league

I think the Flyers will have to lose out to stay in the top 8 as I don't think Buffalo or New Jersey will win again. Buffalo has Pittsburg and the Islanders. Jersey's best chance to win is tonight against struggling Montreal but than has Pittsburgh and the Rangers. Calgary might win tonight against Nashville but than has St Louis and Chicago on back to back nights. I think any win in the next 3 games will drop the Flyers to 10 overall.

Buffalo was playing John Scott in the 3rd, they weren't even trying
Edmonton is pathetic, too bad a team that awful couldn't be penalized for what they do year after year.

Hopefully Briere gets tons of ice time vs the B's as they eat him alive.
