Well that is probably all they have to celebrate this season so.

While on the subject of the NW division this is it's last year of existence... and I think that the Oilers are the only team without a NW division "title."

Year Winner Points Seed Playoffs
1999 Colorado Avalanche 98 #2 Lost Western Conference Final to Dallas, 4–3
2000 Colorado Avalanche 96 #3 Lost Western Conference Final to Dallas, 4–3
2001 Colorado Avalanche 118 #1 Won Stanley Cup Final vs. New Jersey, 4–3
2002 Colorado Avalanche 99 #2 Lost Western Conference Final to Detroit. 4–3
2003 Colorado Avalanche 105 #3 Lost Western Conference Quarter Final to Minnesota, 4–3
2004 Vancouver Canucks 101 #3 Lost Western Conference Quarter Final to Calgary, 4–3
2005 None
2006 Calgary Flames 103 #3 Lost Western Conference Quarter Final to Anaheim, 4–3
2007 Vancouver Canucks 105 #3 Lost Western Conference Semifinals to Anaheim, 4–1
2008 Minnesota Wild 97 #3 Lost Western Conference Quarter Final to Colorado, 4–2
2009 Vancouver Canucks 100 #3 Lost Western Conference Semifinals to Chicago, 4–2
2010 Vancouver Canucks 103 #3 Lost Western Conference Semifinals to Chicago, 4–2
2011 Vancouver Canucks 117 #1 Lost Stanley Cup Final to Boston, 4–3
2012 Vancouver Canucks 111 #1 Lost Western Conference Quarter Final to Los Angeles, 4-1

Yup.

Although, only one cup winner has ever come from the NW division. Minnesota's the only NW team not to send a team to the Cup Finals.

If you're wondering, I believe we made the playoffs 5 times since the NW division's inception... once more than the Flames! High fives all around.

The Oilers haven't won their division since 1986-87.

Only Columbus and Nashville haven't won their division and they've been around for far less time.

By my count we've only won 7 playoff rounds since the Stanley Cup in 1990.

2 rounds in 1992
1 in 1997
1 in 1998
3 in 2006

The playoffs seem about a billion miles away right now. We'll seemingly never ever make it.

It's kind of crazy that we went 9 years between playoff round victories. 1997-2006. Man. And now we're in the midst of another long wait.

It was only eight.

1998 was the Colorado upset.

Super pumped. More exciting than the garbage down Wayne Gretzky.

Winnipeg would be absolutely nuts in the playoffs. Could even be a Winnipeg Toronto matchup. Or Montreal.

The Flames must be upset that they passed the Oilers in the standings.

They are sitting Cammalleri, Stempniak, Backlund, Stajan and Jackman tonight.

No no, Calgary doesn't tank.

They're "injured."

I thought there was a rule about sitting x amount of players. I know it's usually with regards to playoff teams, but does that rule apply to non-playoff teams as well?

I don't recall ever seeing anything... as long as they are under contract (obviously)... I assume any 20 guys can play.

Do they even have any top 6... no, top 9 forwards left?

It would be interesting to see how it compares to the rest of the teams.

Calgary has 3, I know that much.

Also MV forgot about 1991.

Two rounds that year which brings our total to 9.

NYI also has two I think, unless they won some rounds in 91/92.

Man, the Canadiens stink right now.

Update on the Flames' progress: Up 1-0 against the Predators. God...

If this were a full season the Flames would finish 9th.

3 point game with a Nashville OT/SO win would be nice.
