The Flyers deserve a #1 overall more than the Oilers. We haven't had any ever and the one time we were supposed to, Chicago screws us over.
Actually, Chicago bent us over twice with Kane scoring the winner in that fateful game.
Well we did pick 1st overall once, we traded to get there though. Bill Clement, Don Mclean and the 18th OVR (The last pick in the first round) to pick Mel Bridgman

Yeah, I meant us actually getting #1 overall, not trading for it or the player who was #1 overall. Sorry, should have been more clear.

Anti-tank. Oh well.

Zadorov/Ristolainen will be good.

Welp, much like our playoff dreams, our tanking dreams have been killed as well. This season has been an all around failure.

Yup. A top 5 pick would have been nice but we just aren't as bad as that.

While I too am disappointed to be a middling team (not good or bad enough), I do take some solace in the emergence of Jake Voracek as a legitimate star forward. Sadly, that's pretty much it.

There's a lot of reason for optimism about this team for the future--I really don't see how anyone can believe otherwise.

At least we didn't move further back in the top-10. BUF and NJD also won.

I'd also put L. Schenn, Simmonds and Mason on the positive side.

Neither, I hope. Buffalo and NJ won so we're still in 8th. We should be able to get Zadorov

Morrissey and Mantha will likely go outside the top 10.

L. Schenn has been ok, but not really a big step forward imo. Really same for Simmonds... already a solid, established player. Mason has played what? 5 games?

Just a lot more players being stagnant or big steps backwards. I maintain the only guy who really took a solid step forward is Jake.

If you think Luke Schenn has not improved from his playing time in Toronto to now, you did not watch him enough up there. He has performed a total 180 and become a very solid top 4 defender. He has impressed the hell out of me.

Schenn even looks poised with the puck in his own zone. Now if he could only hit the net with his slapshots.

Yep. Even the advanced show the complete change Schenn has done. He has problems distributing at times and goes for the big hits a few times too much, but overall has been a rock defensively. His skating is EASILY better than when he was with the Leafs. He isnt a number 1 defender, but has the teams #2 he has done what the team has asked + more.

In 19 games total this season, mason now has a 2.52 GAA and a .918 sv%

In his 6 games with the flyers he's put up a 2.08 GAA and a .936 sv%

He quite obviously has the ability to put it together, which in and of itself is a positive for me.

Will he turn it around and become the starting goaltender he was on his way to being when he won the Calder? I don't know, but I think he definitely can.

Central Scouting's Final Rankings

Apparently, not everyone loves Zadorov (#22 among North American skaters)

If by going of the combination of both NA and EU skaters, I could see us probably pulling Rist as our pick if we are anywhere between 8th and 11th. Nurse looks like his stock just keeps rising, possibly higher than what we could go to.

Ristolainen it is then.

Let's go Islanders, let's go Senators.

It certainly has some sex appeal to have our Finnish God of defense mentor Risto should they select him-- with Chris Pronger around to show him how to use that size.

All you people think we'll draft a defenseman. I think we'll get a forward.

Yeah we're definitely drafting a center.

I'm really getting tired of drafting centers, honestly.

The further we drop down, the less likely it becomes that we draft a forward, IMO. It would be one thing if Lindholm or Monahan was still on the board--a la 2011--but if we go 1-1-0 in these last two, I suspect we'll end up picking 10th. BPA should be a defenseman, I'd think.

Honestly, if we can sneak in to get Nurse (unlikely) I'd be pleased.

However, Zadorov, because of his offensive issues, could sink all the way to the early 2nd. I think these rankings are off though, and he goes in that sweet spot of 12-18.

If we don't have a shot at Nurse, we don't have a rebound shot at Zadorov either, but it'd be nice if things fell into our favor just this once.

EDIT: I just realized how unfair that is after Couturier fell to us.

EDIT2: I just realized that Couturier falling to us cost us Hamilton.

EDIT3: I just realized that Holmgren may have taken another defenseman over Hamilton...
