Smith with another 2 last night, which gives him 27 goals in 54 games. I have only seen Rockford a couple of times this year, but my recollection is that he is very solid on his skates and plays hard-nosed. I would still like to see him get a real shot.
Well, it looks like Rockford's going to miss the playoffs. But, at least this year, they actually had a shot and were in it until, literally, the final game of the season. It was a good season for the Hogs. With more consistency in the first half of the season, they would have gotten in.
Should be interesting to see what the Hawks do regarding callups. I'd expect Pirri, Morin, J.Hayes and Stanton to be recalled right away - as well as potentially Smith and Clendening.
I'm not sure how many 'black aces' the Hawks usually call up (I believe they had 11 a couple years ago), but I think they'll call up the following players to be 'black aces': Brandon Pirri, Jeremy Morin, Jimmy Hayes, Ben Smith, Mark McNeill, Phillip Danault, Ryan Stanton, Dylan Olsen, Klas Dahlbeck, Carter Hutton.
Agreed. I wish the Hogs would have started out a little better. They finished the year very well, and you can tell we have some prospects on that team that will be good NHL'ers in the near future. Hoping Pirri gets a shot tomorrow if that's possible and puts on a show. Would love for him to do great in his first game up and continue to so we can have a 2C going into the playoffs. Highly unlikely, but would be nice.
I doubt Pirri gets in tomorrow, and as I said earlier, I'd be surprised if he got in at all.. but with Rockford's season almost (officially) over, there's the possibility of Pirri playing a game or two for Chicago now.
Pirri is the youngest AHL top scorer since Jason Spezza in 2004-2005, and he was already an established NHLer with 111 GP and was just playing in the AHL during the lockout. It is overwhelmingly won by AHL veteran scorers. So it's very impressive for him to win it. Congrats to him. He's definitely earned a look at that #2 Center spot.
Either one of Hutton/Karlsson should return in mentor role with Simpson assuming other spot in net and Carruth getting a year in the E
Whether it's Hutton, Karlsson, or someone else, this is exactly what should happen. Let Simpson be the backup, get 20-25 starts (unless his play warrants more) and let Carruth be the man in the ECHL, as Simpson was this season.
