Do the Habs suck on purpose?

Sucking on purpose right before the playoffs as a strategy might have worked for the 1993 Habs, but do you really think the Habs have sucked on purpose in the past two weeks?

Sucking on purpose right before the playoffs can be used as a strategy so that whoever plays a team in the playoffs might not play their best and, still thinking they suck, gets outplayed.

Would pay to watch a pre-game speech for a suck on purpose game.

I honestly do not know what is wrong with this team. I hope we can pull it together.

I knew it. As soon as the optimism runs dry, and the "the playoffs are a new season" loses it's luster, the conspiracy theories will arrive.

How about this: We aren't very good. We're not horrible, but not very good. And yes, the first 40 games were a bit of luck, easy scheduling and running on fumes of a new coach, system, etc.

They're obviously trying to set up a Bruins-Habs confrontation. Wake up sheeple.

I think not. But sucking on purpose can be achieved in a myriad of ways: putting defensive liabilities on the PK, breaking forward chemistry...

Maybe they are trying to get the coach fired or something, I have no explination, i've never seen anything like it, just a bad team right now, don't see how they will make it past the first round

Why would a team intentionally suck before the playoffs? Sorry but it's a dumb premise

When fans are hinging their hopes on the return of Armstrong and Diaz, you know you have a weak team. We're probably going to have to endure another year of this crap... 2014-2015 should be better.

It worked for the Habs back in 1993 but this team is nothing like 1993...

Who says that the Habs intentionally sucked before the 93 playoffs? You have proof? It's a dumb premise

We aren't that good.

It's that simple. Team overachieved big time, and it just so happens Price is going through one of the toughest slumps of his career at the same time as the team is falling back to earth.

We were a bubble team then and we still are now.

I don,t think they suck on purpose but they certainly slacked off since they clinched a playoffs spot.

It is possible that they don't go at 100% and that they try to preserve themselves a bit for the PO. It's a dangerous game if that's the case though

Even so, is there anyone other than the 1993 Habs that pulled that off?

Well i remember the Wings scratching a bunch of players in the last few games of the season a few years ago. Datsyuk was out one game , Zetterberg the next ect so that they could rest a bit before the POs.

I'm sure it happened with other teams as well. It's also often disguised as minor injuires scratches.

But that's not really the same thing as the Habs situation right now so i'm not sure if there is a comparaison to be made

Obviously. What else could be happening?

Honestly, I was very sceptic for a good part of the season, then i got convinced, now I'm drinking and crying. It's hard to be a fan of this team.

Exactly, two or more of our D prospects (Beaulieu, Tinordi, Deitz, Ellis, Thrower) should be on the team by then. Some of our forwards like Colberg, Kristo, Leblanc, Hudon might also help improve the forward corps as well.

This team doesn't suck, whether on purpose or by accident. We are on a slump for the first time this year. It happens, its just unsettling when its so close to the playoffs.

How maniaco-depressive of you. I bet just a few weeks ago you were planning to host your own 2013 stanley cup celebratory barbecue. The good this year FAR outweighs the bad. Its like winning a million dollar on the lottery three months ago but losing 10 000$ betting at the casino yesterday and then claim your entire year was a disaster.

Take the whole picture, this ''terrible to watch'' team has been extremely entertaining most year and is going to finish with home ice advantage.

You'd have to go to Edmonton for that.

I'm really not sure if the OP was being serious. There ARE consequences to our recent slump. If we had won maybe two of the many many blowouts, we'd have locked up the division tonight or would need a point. Now the leafs can STILL pass us.

How would that strategy work exactly? The other team loses three games to us by just taking it lightly and then before getting eliminated, forgets that fact and takes us lightly again?

I would love to hear the evidence that the Habs blew it at the end of the reg season in 93! Why isn't that in the DVD?

Also we should be worried, cuz Boston is trying the same tactic.

We're also not that bad.

Price didn't play so bad tonight, actually made a few key saves throughout the game.
We also seem to get our legs back a bit in the third.

But right now our confidence is close to non-existent. I mean, did you notice the number of no look pass to our ghost players?? Even Markov looked like a rookie passer.
I don't know how many unforced errors we did as well. Sometimes we had open wingers on the board and our D couldn't even make a simple tape to tape pass with little pressure coming for the opponents. It was pathetic.
The best way to describe it imo is that everybody seem to want the puck, and not want it at the same time.

Seriously, nothing is working at the moment.
