Carolina's position is even more embarrassing than ours with all of the veterans and big contracts they have. What a gutless team.

Actually we're still ahead of them because of fewer games played.

Well they did lose Ward for the majority of the season. I think they had to go with their third stringer for a period of time.

The Jets are awful. Speedbumps. They only reason they even are in this position is facing dreck like Tampa, Carolina, Florida every other night. The Oilers might be up there with those kind of opponents.

Interesting fact. Last time the Jets beat a playoff club was March 19. Well over a month ago. This against Boston in a game in which they were outshot and outplayed badly by the Bruins and only won due to goaltending on one of those nights..

Do they deserve to make the playoffs?

Certainly not.

In anycase they mercifully lost, the SC playoffs get to go on without the Jets who would be easy first round fodder for any playoff team.

Carolina lost Pitkanen too a little while ago to the dreaded icing race

Preds take a 3-2 lead

Looks like the Penguins are going to cough up a very winnable game against the Sabres. Ott scores to give Buffalo a 3-2 lead with 2 minutes left.

They've been teetering back and forth between mediocre and awful all year.

Well that's as good a reason as any to be worried about a potential quick fix. Staal couldn't help the Canes be any better nor could Carter make the Jackets better the year before.

Deserves to be mentioned that the oilers come off as middle of the pack in that breakdown but only due to several of the teams with less playoffs games not having been in the league that length of time.

Torres with another beautiful finish big goal tonight and frankly been one of the best Sharks since the addition and with 2G 4A 6pts since joining the sharks.

A nice player that is .5ppg on the season and playing only 13mins night. Better EV production/minute than everybody on the Oil except for Taylor Hall.

Meanwhile guys in our bottomsix that "were just what we needed" contribute zero offense while our club struggles to score several games at a time.

Yes, Torres was the missing piece.

Don't you have a Gilbert rally to attend? Or did you miss his healthy scratch?

Just never understand the specific Torres dislike on a board that worshipped the additions of idiots like Ben Eager, Mike Brown, Darcy Hordichuk, etc.

Want an energy player? Go to somebody thats good at it and can actually contribute, be tough to play against, and antagonize.

Torres would be a useful addition to this club. Much moreso than anybody we have recruited into the bottomsix in the years that Torres has been playing with other clubs.

Meanwhile several people on this board worshipped Clowe from a distance and Sharks fans all saying Torres has done more in 9games than Clowe all season.

I'm pretty much through with "energy" guys at this point.

If the entire team has none, one player isn't going to inspire them. Doesn't matter if it's Torres, Eager, Ott, Brown, whatever.

I guarantee you if Torres were traded here, he'd just float like everyone else.

Don't forget it was only a few years ago that he was dealt to Buffalo and did absolutely nothing for that team.

He was huge for Columbus, played well for Nucks, played well in Phoenix, playing great for SJ, and played about 15 games in Buffalo. Yet I hear this Buffalo thing a lot.

I don't know that any other player thats been here gets more irrational hate than Torres. Not sure what it is. Useful player here and has been much of his career. Consistently better than ANYBODY we've had in our bottomsix. Whats the last player we've had in bottom six rotation better than Torres is now?

Glencross? Brodz? Neither of who this org respected either.

You're also listing teams that were just fine before he came along. It's not as if Torres put any of those teams over the top. In his final year here he took many games off for one reason or another. Maybe it's because we sucked.

He hasn't replicated a 20 goal or 40 point campaign since he left here either, even though he came oh so close when he joined the Sabres.

His career shows that he can be effective (Phoenix) and that he can be a lazy floater (last year in Edmonton, Buffalo)

And I think we all would take those two back in a heartbeat. They're much better than Torres is.

I don't hate Torres, I love what he did in 2006. Sadly that's the only year I ever remember him being truly effective. But you're the only one here who constantly pumps his tires in a community where most former Oilers are generally represented by the two camps of Oiler fans.

Can you honestly tell me this team would be less lifeless if Torres were back here?

Honestly, if we had Torres again and he played like his "2006 self" we'd probably only see it for a game or two. Krueger seems to have an uncanny ability to suck the compete out of his players with his nonsensical system and so-called attention to detail.

I honestly think Renney and Krueger are too cerebral and calm. Renney I understand as that was earlier in the rebuild but I think the team needs a little more screaming and ass kicking behind the bench.

Can Krueger (or put him back as an asssistant)... "rent" Mike Keenan for a half a year and then fire him and replace him with Ruff. Ya I know that's 3 coaches in less than a year but it would be entertaining to watch as well... and I bet it makes "something happen" on the ice.... at least there wouldn't be those repetitive BS feel good sessions that Krueger gives the media after every loss.

We would only see it for a game or two, because that's how often Torres brought his A-game.

Well that's what happens when you sign Ellis as your 2nd string goalie. That seems like a typical Oiler management move.
