I know nothing about this kid.

Subban and Proger get thrown out as comps all the time.

Is he anything like Bouwmeester in his draft year? Perhaps a Jared Cowen (underrated offense but a big "defensive minded" guy"? I'm just trying to get a better sense of what he is, and not so much what he projects to be. Everyone in the top 10 is "projected" to be top line material.

He's probably the top 10-15 prospect I know the least about - IDK why

Yeah I agree nurse is much darker.

Comparing either to subban is stupid. When your comparing prospects you compare them at the same age, and subban was no where near as good at 17/18 as either. He also had weaker competition his draft year and still wasn't a stand out. He was just developed almost perfectly. This is like the Kane and Iginla comparison.

It's too bad he won't make it to San Jose. Then he'd be Darnell Nurse Shark.

Your actually not the first guy I heard say he might be better then Seth Jones. But interesting to see what happens. He's listed as 6'3. Is he really 6'3?

Look at the depth of the Edmonton organization:

Defense: Klefbom, Marincin, Gernat, Musil, Simpson, (and others not worth mentioning like Teubert and Fedun)

Offense: um....Rajala, Lander, Hartikainen....

The above explains why Darnell Nurse is not coming to Edmonton. The Oilers need forward talent for the pipeline- specifically either size on the wing (Nichuckin) or a second line center with size (Barkov, Monahan)

I know that I have been gushing about the kid all year long. lol
reminds me of coburn...not as sexy as the pronger predictions but coburn is a solid 22-26 min a game dman that can skate like the wind.

If one of Klefbom, Marincin, Gernat, Musil or Simpson turns into a legit top 4 dman I'll consider us lucky.

You don't pass on a top-10 d-man with first-pairing potential because you have a bunch of B-level D prospects that half the teams in the league have.

I see your point, but the reality is that picking a d-man in the top 10 is a risky business at the best of times. Add to that a player that has suddenly moved into the top tier- well, suffice to say I don't think Nurse is a "can't miss" prospect.

I think you are undervaluing Klefbom. The Oilers see him as top 4 material, with some thinking he may play next year.

If Oilers are picking 6-7th and Nurse and Monahan are present- mark my words, they will select a centre to replace Gagner.

Suddenly? He's been a top 15 guy all year who has steadily moved up in everyone's rankings and who will likely go between 6-10. You're acting like no one even heard of him before

Since 2008 Dman picked in top 10.

Doughty
Bogosian
Pietrangelo
Schenn
Hedman
Ekman-Larsson
Cowen
Gudbranson
Larsson
Hamilton
Brodin

Doesn't look too risky to me, might have been risky 10 years ago but not today.

That being said, I absolutely love this guy's physical package. His skating/agility on his feet for such a big guy is going to allow him to be nasty at the NHL level if he wants to be, and I'm sure he will. His skating is more advanced than other big guys drafted high lately like Gudbranson or Jared Cowen. He's way more comfortable handling the puck than other guys with good tools and mean streaks like Siemens, Teubert and even Gudbranson probably. He keeps his game pretty simple, crisp passes, calm plays, with shots that hit the net, he's definitely not anything fancy back there like Subban at all - awful comparison whoever came up with that. His skating and the athleticism/agility he shows in his recoveries is a HUGE asset considering his size. If I was to compare I'd probably say he's like Bouwmeester with an edge - and that's a damn good player and top pairing guy. This player is NOT Karlsson or Subban - he's not driving the bus offensively from the back-end and creating scoring chances on rushes up the ice. If anything, he's a nasty throwback defender who plays a pretty simple game with excellent skating ability.
Never said he was Pronger, merely said he plays a similar game.

I'm not undervaluing him. I think he's the best bet of the bunch, but he's definitely not a sure thing in the least or can't miss. I think he has the potential to be a solid d-man, but he's definitely not a top pairing NHL d-man now. He's definitely not more ready than Schultz was coming into this year and he's getting slammed mentally and physically by his first NHL season because of fatigue issues. I'm not saying they shouldn't select a C, but picking Nurse wouldn't exactly be sacrilege. You can never have enough good d-men, as our current team shows what a dearth of them we have. Teams win with good defense top to bottom.

Darnell Nurse/ Bait

If the Oilers stay in the 6th place in the lottery I wouldn't mind seeing Darnell Nurse in a Oilers jersey 6'4 and 190 pounds. He'll need to gain a bit more weight, but it wouldn't be a bad fit in my opinion. A very young team with a quite a bit to learn yet. (Trade bait for the Oilers I could see Horcoff, Hemsky, Peckham,Belanger, Smithson, Khabibulin, Whitney, Potter and possibly Mike Brown)

I agree with you- Klefbom is certainly not a top pairing defenseman and I am not convinced he ever will be a top 1-2. I have read (can't provide links) that the Oilers might well be expecting him to crack their top 6 next year (not an impossible feat. Move over Corey Potter)

This in my estimation would be a mistake. Major surgery and no playing time for months on end. Welcome to the NHL.

I still think that the only way that the Oilers look to Nurse is in the following situation:

1) Barkov is gone
2) Monahan is gone
3) Nichushkin scares them with his KHL contract

If those three things happen, sign me up as a Nurse fan.
