I don't know if they can count on Grossmann or Mezaros to be healthy for next season.

Can we just draft and develop our own players and NOT trade them for once???

I was about to be like "the ducks already signed perry lol you're a little late dude"
but yeah I totally agree with you. The only deals I wouldn't mind for a PMD at this point are straight up hockey trades similar to the JVR-schenn swap, and it wouldn't involve Couturier or any other young guys. Only prospect I'd consider moving would be Laughton since we already have Couts and Schenn and that's only if a 1st is coming back and there's one of Zadorov or Risto is on the board. For once I want to draft some quality defenders and actually show the patience to develop them.

edit:
I also agree with the guy above me, I think Mesz is done here but Grossmann is definitely worth keeping. This year was tough for everyone in terms of injuries because of the schedule but he isn't an injury prone guy, I don't know when he'll be ready but he's worth holding onto.

Like others have said I wouldn't count on Meszaros at all for next season. And that assortment of forwards looks absolutely terrible to me. Rinaldo should be on the fourth line only, Rosehill should be the 13th forward. And im not sure Akeson is good enough to pencil into the lineup.

Edit: Id rather keep Coburn and Read instead of trading them for yandle.

Harntell-Giroux-Voracek
XXX-Schenn-Simmonds
McGinn-Couturier-Read
Talbot-Laughton-Rinaldo
Rosehill

Timonen-Coburn

I know it would never happen, but what about Hartnell+2nd rounder to Edmonton for their 1st round pick. MacT wants established talent and some gritty wingers, Hartnell fits that to a t. I don't Edmonton would do it though.

Plus Holmgren should probably stop trading players right before their new deals kick in.

Yep, because nobody wants to sign here anymore.

It's a business, if you get a deal you like you take it.

If you're going with a full rebuild (which the Flyers probably won't do) the value is there.

Personally I'm not in the full rebuild crowd so I don't get the Hartnell and Coburn proposals thrown around a lot but that's just my opinion.

I would do that deal in a heartbeat. Then, again I am not a Hartnell fan.

Nah...he pisses off too many people on the other team. Boston and Philly are the only teams with tough players in a top 6 role. That's invaluable used effectively.

Whats Coburns modified NTC?

Amnestying Briere, and if not healthy, amnesty Mez, if healthy trade.

Trading Talbot, Read, and possibly Coburn.

Keeping Tye Micginn up, resigning Hall, Gagne, and Huskins.

FORWARDS
Simon Gagne ($4.750m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jaromir Jagr ($4.550m) (Godly)
Scott Hartnell ($3.500m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m) (Really good potential scoring)
Tye McGinn ($0.775m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m) (Would shut down good.)
Zac Rinaldo ($0.750m) / Adam Hall ($0.650m) / Jay Rosehill ($0.675m) (Toughy)
Scott Laughton ($1.138m) /

DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.000m) Mike Weber ($3.600m) (Pretty nice)
Jordan Leopold ($3.000m) / Erik Gustafsson ($0.851m) (Leopold mentor Gustaf?)
Luke Schenn ($0.827m) / Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m) (Big body hits)
Kent Huskins ($0.750m) / Bruno Gervais ($0.825m)

GOALTENDERS
Steve Mason ($1.500m) ( New Starter )
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)

Impression I got from Homer on Huskins is that he will not be resigned. Preferring to use a youngster in that slot. Also: 4.75 million for Gags? What. Also, the brass has stated they have moved on from Jagr.

Edit: Also-- the team needs Talbot and Read. Those guys are the cement of a team.

Read be gone by next year being RFA soon. He's a real valuable trade asset right now. Maybe right about Talbot.

Read will be an UFA. He's a trade asset, I agree, but it is diminished by the fact that he will be, after next season, a UFA. If he were a RFA, he would have more value.

That being said-- he's good on both sides of the ice, does everything well. The type of guy the team needs. If they could sign him for around 3+ million that would be fantastic. Imagine keeping him for a 2.1+ million raise. I would like the team to attempt to keep the good parts of the built team intact, should it make monetary sense. If he's looking for DAT CHECK-- like Leino was--- cya.

Moving Read, Talbot and letting Rusty walk next season all at once would provocate an even worse team defense and a lot more goals against. Not to mention what this would cause in to the locker room.

Some of the posters in this thread need to realize that an all offense team can't win aynthing in this league!

The forward corps is a tad too young and looks pretty thin, especially when injuries strike and a couple of players are out.

Akeson is undersized and does not know how to play defense and that's why he is not suited for a bottom 6 role. Also, i don't like Jay Roeshill as a regular, not even on the 4th line.

You stacked the defense, which is good. Not sure if we actually need both Yandle and Streit to be successfull. I'd rather have only one of them and spend a little more on forward scoring depth and a Veteran 4th line center with size who can win faceoffs.

Just my two cents.

Do you think the organization is dead set on Schenn being a center? With Laughton coming up next year we need to move him to center. I am the biggest Schenn fan on this board and realize he struggled this year on the wing, but he can learn. He's a smart player and if you can play good at center I think you'll think the game through even better at wing. Him and Couturier had some serious chemistry in the AHL this year. He needs to be moved to wing!!

Hartnell G Voracek
Schenn Couturier Simmonds
Gagne Laughton Read
Rinaldo Talbot Rosehill/other 4th line player we sign (I'm probably forgetting somebody obvious for this spot )

Those are 3 great lines and I think Couturier would find his game next to Schenn. I think if we don't move Schenn to the wing one of Couturier/Laughton will have to move too seeing as the latter two are DEFINITE centers, unlike Schenn.

Thoughts? I think Brayden will be just fine at wing, even though he's played center all season, besides starting on G's wing, which granted he did look bad.

Gagne/McGinn - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell - Schenn - Read
Simmonds - Couturier - Laughton
Rinaldo - Hall - Talbot
Rosehill

Timonen - Schenn
Streit - Coburn
Gustafsson/(Nurse/Ristolainen) - Grossmann
Huskins

Mason
Eriksson

That's my dream "overhaul" at this point.

Me too. I'm fairly confident Bryz gets one more year before he's gone. Hopefully we can still manage to get Eriksson.

Maybe they can tell Eriksson he'll be up "next year" so Bryz has the one more season. Unlikely, I know.

Also, I doubt Huskins will be here. I hope he is-- but...

Also: I'm pretty fine with that lineup, Chris.

For a moment there, I was considering moving Couts, but the more I think about it-- there is little value in trading Couts as a defensive stalwart forward for a defenseman. The move becomes basically a lateral move -- trading d in the forward core for d in the d core. With Briere gone, another center spot is open to begin with, alleviating some of the log jam -- and Laughton will either play on the wing on the 3rd line or center the 4th.

Couturier and Schenn both have to take a serious step forward offensively for that 2nd line to be capable.
