Offer sheet Shattenkirk.

Then when STL matches, offer sheet Pietrangelo.

I just suggested on the main board a Nick Schultz and a 2nd for JayBo and got flamed big time.

So I'm going to take that as Edmonton having to add to that one...

I have actually thought of this as well...But it seems like you would have to go well over market value to pry one of them away.

What would your offers be?

Thought I might chime in here.

I forget which one (think Shattenkirk), but because of arbitration rights, one of them isn't available to offer sheets.

As overrated as I think Jaybo is, offering nick Schultz and a 2nd is pretty much worse than offering just a 2nd, which is not enough for him.

I would love for us to offer sheet one of the big 4 from the blues. I would really like Patrick berglund from them if we don't draft a legit second line centre.

I don't think St.Louis would see much value in Schultz with his cap hit only saving ~3.5 mill over Bouwmeester.

A conditional second 2014 and then maybe Ewanyk/Rajala? Although wasn't Ewanyk just ELC'd? I'm not one for proposals

Adding Berglund and Monahan/Barkov this summer would be incredible.
It would bring tons of flexibility to the organization, center depth, and time to let that draft pick develop.

I don't think St. Louis really has that much cap problems...

They have over $25M in cap-space and only really 4 key RFA's.

If you say Pietrangelo gets $5.75M, Shatty $4.75M, Berglund $3.750M, Stewart $4.75M that leaves them over $6M to fill 4 roster spots. Even if you bump up each of those numbers by $0.5M that's still $4M for 4 roster spots. Yea, they may be forced to let go of a guy like Leopold or McDonald if someone offer sheets but they're really not in that tight of a cap situation. An offer sheet might force them to move a player they'd otherwise keep - Cole, McDonald, Leopold, Jackman - but I can't see them not matching anything unless it's just ridiculous

That being said, it's a tough move to make, but the following legitimate top-4 defensemen would suffice IMO:

Toni Lydman - underrated LHD who has been solid for 10+ years now. Great compliment to young developing offensive defensemen, and could be ideal partner for Justin Schultz.
Proposed move: Sign to 3yr, $3.25M deal
I was very impressed with Lydman in our games against the Ducks, he was very physical and a solid player overall.

I think/hope we package Hemsky and one of our seconds to go after Lazaar. It's hard to tell where he'll go but if he drops past 16 perhaps we can get a playoff team to bite?

Well if Central Scouting's Final Rankings are anything to go by, Lazar might be there in the 2nd round.

And create another hole in our line-up?

Trading Hemsky at the draft doesn't create a "huge hole in the line-up"

Trading him and then assuming Hartikainen can fill his spot does though.

Galchenyuk is definitely on a similar level to this years top C's but has a full year of NHL experience (plus playoffs). I know Montreal fans love him but Drouin is a hell of a player and a local kid (played minor hockey in Lac Saint-Louis) and probably dreamt of playing for the Habs growing up.
I WOULD LOVE THAT. You don't see teams do a trade like this very often though.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Paajarvi - Gally - Yak

If we could flip Paajarvi and Hemsky for a power forward that would be nice too.

They go by a self impose cap

Yes, but two consecutive playoff appearances could change that, especially if they go deep.

Well a disappointing early 1st round exit it is then for the Blues.

Shattenkirk going to arbitration is big - because they'll likely get him on a 1-2 year deal at a much nicer price than he'd get on an offer-sheet.

STL could simply point at OEL's contract to ensure Shattenkirk doesn't get a shade more than $5M, and I think STL happily signs that.

Those are some big time home town discounts you're suggesting. God bless their GM if they can make those deals.

I think it will be more like Pietrangelo 6.5M, Shattenkirk 5.5M, Berglund 4.5mil, Stewart 5.5mil, for a total of 22mil. Then they still have 7 players to sign to ice a complete roster with only 25mil in cap space so something has to give in St.Louis.
They'll sign those guys but I think Halak, Perron, Steen and Jaybo could be had for cheap.
