How many teams have backups that could play for a long stretch of time if their starter went down?

I love how some people think the 2006 version of Torres was flawless because he turned the San Jose series around with one hit. That very playoff run he was criticized, throughout the entrie season he was criticized for be a lazy ass. It's who he is. You don't hear from Torres until he makes an illegal hit.

Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary(if you believe the announcers how unbelievable McDonald is), Toronto, Pittsburg that's just thinking off the top of my head and the metrics I used was if the team wouldn't be in a worse position with their back-up in the net.

Edmonton? Doubtful, Bulin gets hurt.

There are some no doubt, but you look at the numbers and it's not like Ellis has been horrible. 6-8-1. The problems is Ward steps up and wins games for them and outside of having one of those big name backups like Pit or Van there isn't much Carolina could do for a backup. They are paying Ward 6.3mil I don't ever see them going out and adding a big name backup making money.

He was pretty much Penner, but on some nights he'd throw that cheap shot as you say.

Why is Edmonton doubtful? Would they be in a worse position whether it was Bulin or Danis?

The metric of comparing a team that it doesn't matter who they had in net as opposed to a team who if they had their starter would be fighting for the playoffs and not 1st overall?

Question is, is he ready? With the Sens dangerously close to falling out of the playoff picture, one can't help but wonder...

Eugene Melnyk is bat**** insane. I think they're rushing him. 10 weeks is far too fast for an achilles.

Considering it takes most regular jackoffs like us 6mo's to a year to recover from an achilles surgery... that is insanity

Stamkos is battling Ovi for the Ross and Richard... hopefully that means he turns it on vs the Leafs and the Lightning get a win.

Would also be good if he came in hot for the WHC.

Anyone know how close Crosby is to coming back?

Pretty tight race for the Art Ross, Richard, Hart etc. Onc thing about the compressed season is things are a lot tighter than in an 82 game schedule where players tend to separate more.

Stamkos, St Louis and Crosby all with 56 pts now.

Martin St. Louis scores, he's 37 and now leads the league in scoring. I know Crosby's been out, but wow. Well done sir, I'll say it, HHOFer, imo.

Oh Calgary how did you miss THAT BADLY.

How short sighted is Melnyk though?
I mean, do you risk your franchise norris trophy winning Dman to maybe make the playoffs in a lockout shortened season?
Or do you just tell him to stay home, rehab properly and come back next fall as good as he was before he went down?

Seems like a no brainer to me.

On that note, how does a team with Stamkos and St.Louis (1 and 2 in scoring) suck that badly? That's got to be the worst case scenario for the Oilers. Great top line, not much else, especially in net. They rode a bit of Rollie magic for a while, but when that dried up, they fell hard.

Goes to show what superior goaltending can do for a team, and what the lack of it can do, too.

Teams that are focusing on finesse, offense and not much else are failing and failing badly.

I knew that this would be the endgame for the Oilers' "re-build," but no, I kept getting told that in the end talent always wins out. That's been proven to be patently wrong.

Pittsburgh Penguins did it ok, it seems. It would be a fruitful study for our new management team, to compare the Lightning and the Penguins, and figure out what to avoid.
