What do you guys think about re-signing Gagne? I've seen people both including and excluding him from their projected lineups.

Personally, I think he has been very good for us since he came back. He's not the 40-goal guy he once was, but I firmly believe he could hit 20 I'm a full season. Furthermore, he's solid defensively and he is a good veteran leader. Gagne can play anywhere from 1st to 4th line LW and in all situations. If we can get him locked up for 2-3 years at $2.5-3.5M, I would easily say yes to bringing him back.

I think Gagne is worth bringing back.

Why on earth would we move Talbot? That's a ludicrous suggestion.

I wouldn't feel comfortable handing him out a multi-year deal and I wouldn't go any higher than $2M. He's been good for us but with his injury history I wouldn't want to commit much money and years too him. I would be fine with a 1 year deal for $2M for Gagne.

i agree. i wouldn't mind 2 years though, but no more than 2. if you can get him to go down a bit on his cap hit in exchange for an extra year... maybe something like 2 years, 1.75m per, that'd be great.

With Fedotenko expressing dissatisfaction over his role, Talbot should be kept.

He's a smart player and if you can play good at center I think you'll think the game through even better at wing. Him and Couturier had some serious chemistry in the AHL this year. He needs to be moved to wing!!

Hartnell G Voracek
Schenn Couturier Simmonds
Gagne Laughton Read
Rinaldo Talbot Rosehill/other 4th line player we sign (I'm probably forgetting somebody obvious for this spot )

Those are 3 great lines and I think Couturier would find his game next to Schenn. I think if we don't move Schenn to the wing one of Couturier/Laughton will have to move too seeing as the latter two are DEFINITE centers, unlike Schenn.

Thoughts? I think Brayden will be just fine at wing, even though he's played center all season, besides starting on G's wing, which granted he did look bad.
I would love to see Schenn and Couts on the 2nd line together. It'll take him some adjusting to, but after trying it out a bit this year and hopefully working on it over the summer, he should be more comfortable in that role next year. He mind as well get used to it, we have 3 young centermen to fill that 2nd line role. If they want to stay, someone will ultimately end up converting to wing.

Hall's more than likely not getting resigned. I really can't think of one logical reason as to why we would move Talbot.

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,383,714; BONUSES: $3,172,500
CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $88,786

I Amnestied Bryz and Briere
I signed Streit and Khudobon.
I dealt Coburn and Read for Yandle.
Resigned Gus. Said goodbye to Bourdon and Welwood due to injury problems.
Laughton and Mcginn make the team, sorta ignored Akeson, b/c he could be filled in by any 4th liner. and Hall also resigned cheap as an extra.( not shown)
Quote:
The forward corps is a tad too young and looks pretty thin, especially when injuries strike and a couple of players are out.

Akeson is undersized and does not know how to play defense and that's why he is not suited for a bottom 6 role. Also, i don't like Jay Roeshill as a regular, not even on the 4th line.

You stacked the defense, which is good. Not sure if we actually need both Yandle and Streit to be successfull. I'd rather have only one of them and spend a little more on forward scoring depth and a Veteran 4th line center with size who can win faceoffs.

Just my two cents.
I actually forgot Gagne. which makes out Forwards look a little better, Gagne can prob give u 35-40 pts. and Id give him 2 years at 2.5.

If the team really has no interest in re-signing Hall--I don't believe that they have the tagging space to do so right now anyway, so perhaps there's more interest than we think--then that would seem to suggest that Laughton is looking at 4C duties. It would follow that the team doesn't plan to trade Couturier, or convert Schenn to wing.

Yes, I'm absolutely over-analyzing this.

That's a mistake unless there's another forward besides Giroux who can win 55% of his faceoffs next year.

Yes, Homer even said he isn't too hot on the idea of re-signing Hall or Huskins. They came in and helped during our injuries, but we probably will have the younger players next year who can provide that.

I want Hall back but I think it's one of him, Gagne, or Rusty that comes back. There's just not that many spots left open for next year in the bottom 6.

Laughton's also a pretty good faceoff guy.

I don't want depend on Laughton to provide anything next year...it's foolish to do that, he's a rook with little NHL time...

I don't know why we are rushing him on the roster next year anyway.

Much as I like Gagne I would pick Hall out of that three since he would be the cheapest ($700K should be enough), and I don't want Giroux stuck taking 2,000+ faceoffs next year.

I remember reading reports that said Holmgren said that, but does anyone recall (or have access to) his quotes?

I did a quick Google check, but all I found were his April 3 comments re: claiming Hall off waivers. My internet is awful ATM, so navigating back and forth is a bit tricky.

And then does something else.

With that roster I'd probably Coburn on the trading block and fetch offers.

I also want Gus in next years starting Defense, he's proving he can play in the NHL.

I'm worried there won't be enough money to resign our top 3 centers and read the offseason next year with streit and horton.

Can't see us going into the season with that little cap space and Pronger already on LTIR.

Also, two long-term $5.5 deals would create a bunch of headaches after next season. You'd essentially have to but out Bryzgalov, regardless of how well he plays, to get Giroux, Schenn, Couturier, and Read re-signed.

If we draft Ristolainen and they plan to bring him over, then I don't think we go after Streit--not with how Gustafsson has played. I've never been a huge Horton fan, and I'm not sure he's really worth $5.5--though that's probably what it would take to get him.

- McGinn's spot is really up for grabs at camp, but my assumption is that an ELC fills one of the top-9 LW spots (with Hartnell and Gagne).

- Meszaros and Ristolainen are, essentially, the 6/7 defensemen to start the year. If Ristolainen plays very well, or the Flyers find that they have to upgrade the top-9 LW spot, then consider moving Meszaros in-season (for draft picks) and looking for a higher-cap rental upgrade.
