Thank the hockey gods they matched.

When i saw him play in the super series he is who i wanted. I figured the Flames would be in the 6-10 range and he would be around at that point.

Wanted Monahan all year.

New guy here from CalgaryPuck (I come in peace!). Anyhow my choices are either Lindholm or Monahan with our first rounder. I'm a bit more towards Monahan mainly due to his two-way game and his hockey smarts but Lindholm is said to be much more dynamic offensively and physical for his size. Would be happy with either or. I honestly don't know who i would pick with our other two first but man this seems like a great year to have three first rounders. Can't wait for the draft.

TORONTO -- Portland Winter Hawks defenceman Seth Jones and Finnish centre Aleksander Barkov are the players to watch at this year's NHL entry draft.

Central Scouting made them the top-ranked skaters in its final ranking of prospects this season.
. . .
Halifax Mooseheads linemates and Canadian junior teammates Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin are ranked second and third respectively in North America.
. . .
Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds defenceman Darnell Nurse and Ottawa 67's centre Sean Monahan round out the top five North American prospects.
TSN.

Tampa with probably two points tonight over the Leafs (up 4-2 with 6 left).

That puts them 2 points behind us with two games left.

If we lose both games there is a good chance at top 5 pick

Wondering if Monahan is this year's Schelife, projection off because he plays for a bad team.

Might be getting him with one of the later picks (whether it be Blues or Pens, either of which at this point has a shot at going far, imho) just because of where he is from .

Will be interesting to see where Calgary starts picking the other two first rounders this year. If Ottawa's the 8th seed and the best defensemen in the league is back playing for them, while I think Pittsburgh still probably wins... it definitely will be a bit harder of a task for them.
Blues are looking to be setting up a nasty date with the Kings. This is probably the best position for them to get knocked out quickly. While I think Blues might be the second best team in the West (overall), the team L.A has is meant for the playoffs to be honest. If Blues were playing around that 6th seed mark, You know they'd make Vancouver fold in the first round with that play-style.

He's probably where he should be.
Last year he put similar numbers on an incredibly strong team, so people could take a look at him when he was 17 and under different circumstances. In all honesty, he looks like a really strong player, but he's rightfully slotted behind the clear top 3 guys, then the next top 2~3 guys.

Definitely has all the tools to be a high-end center in the league; however, players like MacKinnon, Drouin, Jones, Barkov are probably going to be more 'Elite'. In that same ways (and I hate making this comparison) Toews is top 20 in points this year, probably has one of the top 2 or 3 +/-'s in the league; yet still people like to talk more about Stamkos, Ovechkin, Giroux; even though they're on poor to average teams at best this year... and the other guy's leading the best team in the NHL as the C and the heart and soul.

That's what I feel Monahan will bring to the table.

Only one point ahead of Carolina, Nashville and Edmonton. 2 Points ahead of Tampa.

Where we pick is still very much up in the air.

Tomorrow night, I think it'll be a better indication of where everyone will most likely end up. If Calgary wins: then 3rd is mathematically eliminated.
Everyone's got tough games coming up against teams that still all have very much to play for.

Carolina 0-2-0 against the Rangers this year.
Nashville 1-2-0 against Detroit, with the W coming early in the season.
Calgary 1-1-0 against the Blues.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Today and yesterday were good days for the draft in Calgary. Just need a couple more 'good days'.

Monahan/Barkov/Lindholm+Morissey+Klimchuk would be a hell of a first round

I really want MacKinnon, but since that is pretty much off the table at this point, I'd like monahan as well

I was watching the SWE/USA U18, and Hagg didn't look good whatsoever. On the 2nd USA goal, they basically just skatd right past him. Brutal.

Of course, it may be just a bad game for him.

If we can lose the next two games, the following teams can pass us if they can get just one win out of their last two games:

Nashville, Edmonton, Carolina. Tampa Bay would need 3 points out of four. Absolute best case scenario, we finish third last.

Here's the flip-side. We win both of our last two games, while Philly, Buffalo, and New Jersey all lose their last two. In that case, we'd be drafting tenth.

So it's still anywhere between 3-10, mostly likely drafting 6/7. Still look to be in Monohan/Lindholm territory.

I've seen a few people saying the Flames should draft by position because of the quantity of first rounders. I really disagree. That's a really dangerous way of drafting. Drafting isn't the only way of filling organizational holes. You can get big physical defensemen anywhere. I don't know why you would waste a 1st rounder on one. That's what Tampa did with Andy Rogers in 2004, passing up Bolland, Booth, Krejci, Goligoski. This isn't the NFL where they draft for next year's lineup. Picking for every position because they have so many picks is a trap. Pure scoring and playmaking should be far and away number one on the criteria list. Who knows what the intangibles are in a 17 year old anyway. You can teach a scorer how to check, you can't teach a checker how to score.
If they end up with 3 leftwingers in the first round, so be it.

I just want EDM to win(that felt weird...) atleast 1 of their final two games, us to lose out and the other teams around us to stay put, draft in the 6th position, grab Monahan

Blues can do us a big favor tonight. Hopefully Feaster puts Irving in net.

Why wouldn't you want those other teams to win that are ahead of us...potentially up to 4th.

Tonight will go a long long way in determining where we pick. A win, and we are completely out of the Top 5.

Death Watch 2013

If Calgary loses one of the next two games, should pick no lower than 7th. Win both, they could pick 10th.

Remaining Games:
21 - New Jersey (46): PIT, NYR
22 - Buffalo(46): NYI
23 - Philadelphia(45): NYI, OTT

If Calgary loses both of the next two games, and Carolina, Edmonton, and Nashville each win one game, Calgary's picking fourth. Third if Tampa wins both games.

Remaining Games:
24 - Calgary(42): STL, CHI
25 - Carolina(41): NYR, PIT
26 - Edmonton(41): MIN, VCR
27 - Nashville(41): DET, CBJ
28 - Tampa Bay(40): BOS, FLA

I think Calgary also beats everyone in a tiebreaker as we have all of our wins in regulation.
