Really if the Oilers end up in 27th, its just a good as a lottery pick as all three are genuinely close enough to be considered for the 1st.

27th is 4th, not 3rd

Well we're getting closer to barkov right now. Think his shoulder could be a real issue though? I desperately want to draft him but it just seems like a bad omen....

Hall looks good, RNH will be fine after he heals, Klefbom's sounding good, only a matter of time before Yak goes down.

He just fits in real well here.

I heard Bob Mackenzie talking about who we're looking at to draft, but I was walking out when he was just starting. Anyone who saw who can give me a summary of what he said?

Basically assuming they pick 6-7 that they should pick Nurse. Although he never directly said Nurse, just big bodied defenseman, so that could also be Ristolainen or Zadorov.

The problem is they were assuming they were picking outside the top 5, and he merely said likely take a defensemen.

I like Bob, but it's pretty contradictory. First he says the Oilers need help now an then he says we should take a defensemen who won't be a difference maker for potentially 5+ years?

If we pick 4-6 I'd be shocked if we picked a defensemen, unless it was Nurse and guys like Barkov and Monahan were already gone.

I can see us finishing in 27th then someone winning the draft lottery bumping is to 5th and losing out on Barkov. It'll be like how NYI could have had Larsson.

Yeah, I can see us taking Nurse or a D if we're out out the top 6. Sadly, we might be as low as 3rd. I think we're now in a lock for Barkov/Monahan/Lindholm.

Unless the Oilers win the lottery...

Rip the toy from the kid and trade the pick. I don't even care who for at this point.

I'm starting to think Edmonton might end up with MacKinnon. Never thought that was possible.

Remember Phaneuf the impact had when he entered the league? Not saying it would be the same and he would still be a year or two away offensively but Nurse has very similar aspects to his game, although he is much more sound mentally. http://www.thespec.com/sports/local/...ntral-scouting

TSN is never going to stop saying they need to get a Dman, even though a player like Nurse is going to have to develop for a few years before he can play in the NHL and that the Oilers are actually much deeper in the prospect pool at D than they are at center. Too bad they don't have McGuire there for the draft anymore. I'd love to hear him flip out on the air again when they draft a center.

I like Nurse, but Phaneuf is more the exception to the rule than the norm IMO.

Nurse is likely 2 years away from the NHL, and then another couple years from being a key contributor. Even if he plays 2 more years of junior and bulks up, it's very tough as a rookie NHL defensemen.

I just don't see Nurse as a real option, unless we somehow won our last 2 games and jumped up a few spots. I would hope we'd take any of Jones/Mac/Drou/Bar/Mon/Lind before we looked at him. Project D are fine, but I'd prefer an impact C from this draft.

Yeah it sucks that we went on this skid. But it's still better to get a top 3 pick than to not get one.

We'll win the lottery. It's pretty much pre-ordained now.

If we still had Tambo and his lucky tie I'd feel a lot more confident about that.

If EDM won the lottery and you made the call, what would you do? Trade down within the top 3 or 4? Pick at 1? Trade the pick away? And if you'd pick at 1, who would you take? At 3 or 4?

Happily draft Jones unless a team like Philly offered us Schenn and their pick or something

Depends on what other teams are offering. I'd be tempted to see if I could parlay #1 overall + other pieces in a three way deal to get 2 picks in the Top 8. Then try and get some combination of Barkov/Monahan/Lindholm + Nurse. Yeah, that's pretty much fantasy talk, but that would be ideal.

At #1 - Jones.

At 3 or 4 - depends on who's been taken. I'd go for Barkov or Lindholm most likely.

I'd consider Seth Jones to Philly for their pick (lets say no.7/8) + Couturier.

You could then maybe get Couturier + Nichuskin/Zadarov/etc.

But honestly I'd probably just draft Jones and move on.
