exactly right. In fact if you look at the past decade on all IIHF Tournaments all levels, U18 U20 and Senior Men, no team has won more on big ice than Canada. so, the the big ice argument is a myth perpetrated by others with an agenda. The Americans maybe close given their recent success at the U18 and U20. But the two N. American teams win way more in Europe than do European teams.

I would assume E. Staal. Won the Stanley Cup, Olympics, WC, captain of his own NHL team and is arguably the best player on this team (should he show up). I wouldn't be shocked if he was selected as captain even if Weber showed up.

Team Canada's results on senior international tournamets (since 2003 - last 10 championships)

2003 WHC - Gold (2. Sweden, 3. Slovakia, 4. Czechs)
2004 WHC - Gold (2. Sweden, 3. USA, 4. Slovakia)
2005 WHC - Silver (1. Czechs, 3. Russia, 4. Sweden)
2006 WHC - 4th (1. Sweden, 2. Czechs, 3. Finland)
2007 WHC - Gold (2. Finland, 3. Russia, 4. Sweden)
2008 WHC - Silver (on NHL ice) (1. Russia, 3. Finland, 4. Sweden)
2009 WHC - Silver (1. Russia, 3. Sweden, 4. USA)
2010 WHC - 7th (1. Czechs, 2. Russia, 3. Sweden, 4. Germany)
2011 WHC - 5th (1. Finland, 2. Sweden, 3. Czechs, 4. Russia)
2012 WHC - 5th (1. Russia, 2. Slovakia, 3. Czechs, 4. Finland)

So, let's see:

Slovakia - 3 times in a semi-final round
USA - 2 times
Finland - 5 times (1 gold medal)
Sweden - 9 times (1 gold medal)
Czechs - 6 times (2 gold medals)
Russia - 7 times (3 gold medals)
Canada - 7 times (3 gold medals)

So, I would not say that Europeans are so much better on their own ice. It is a little bit different hockey, but it's not like Canada can't play that way. Last three tournaments were a big disappointing, but sooner or later, Canada will win another gold.

That's what I'm saying: He's not a power foward and he has no business being on the team.

As long as Cam Ward isn't our goalie I'll be happy. I seriously believe he cost us last year.

its a shame that that not all the BPA report, Hell if i were a player i'd call Hockey Canada and tell them that if i was eligible i'd play. Honestly i watch Coaches Corner a bit and would like to know Don Cherry's opinion on Playing for Canada.

Powerforwards don't have to be necessarily restricted to 4th line roles. What I am saying is that in these circumstances, for a crappy world championship, Simmonds playing on the 4th. line is a much better option than Kane. In my opinion Kane on a 4th line role would be completely useless.

We are not counting just world championship, I wrote all IIHF events and given their success recently at the junior events U18 U20 all won on big ice...then that puts them close or maybe even ahead of Canada with gold medals on big ice in the last decade. I haven't done the final math, but look it up. N. American teams on big ice win more gold medals.

Shea Weber not going as team canada can't insure him. Incredible. Modern sport (aka business) sickens me sometimes.

I knew that was going to happen. Anything can be insured, but Hockey Canada is just too cheap. But they'll be looking to make record profits at the World Juniors in 2015 to the tune of 30 million dollars asking Canadians to pony up to 3 grand for ticket packages.

Bush league. Does Hockey Canada want to win this tournament, or do they not?

Simple answer, No! Bob may have to surrender his annual bonus if HC's profit targets are not met, and insuring the nut on Weber's contract is not something Bob is willing to do. To insure his contract for 3 weeks and 10 games, is 250,000 grand. We are not talking about a lot...but a decent team, 23 players will cost up to a cool million. And I'm telling you, that's why you hear the names of marginal players floated out there as being in consideration for the Olympics...just in case the IOC won't pick up the tab on the insurance bill.

Knowing Hockey Canada and the stupidity which abounds there, I wouldn't put it past them pulling that kind of stunt.

Well, chintzing out on the WCs is one thing, I can't seem them do the same for the Olympics.
