Not sure if you have ever been to the one in Montreal, but last year just about every team in the Q had scouts at all of the games I was at. It's kind of a last look pre-draft tournament, a great chance for kids to show their stuff one last time.

That's simply not true.

I thought I had heard that it was a scouted event. This was a couple years ago though so I'm not sure if that's changed.

The Meltdown tourney schedule is already posted on Rinknet.

The combine is running the same weekend in Boisbriand...that may have an impact on the number of scouts at the Meltdown though.

This tournament has been going on for years , the UNB V red program has had several teams each year participate , the teams are made up of invites only. The invites have gone out to the top players for their age group including 93 , 94 , 95 , 96 , 97 etc. from all over the maritimes. Dozens and dozens of these players throughout the years have gone on to be drafted to the Q , a lot still currently playing there. Last year , as in previous years not only have there been a number of Q scouts , but also a number of prep school scouts including Notre Dame ,and a number of Jr A scouts. There has also been a number of Q coaches involved, last year had Danny Flynn and Darryl Seward of the Wildcats coach teams to name a few. There are many high caliber players involved in this tournament or at least there has been in years past.

But ye a friend of mine has a kid playing in the tournament this year which he'll be going to with his kid, and guess what... He's a QMJHL scout

So ye, there's at least 1 going

But ye it's not your birth right to make false claims on hfboards. I'm not saying "this place is going to be loaded with scouts and it'll make or break many players!!!!!" but there will be scouts taking in the games.

I have know of several Q scouts that will be there as well as University scouts itis not a long drive between the two events. And as far as paying to attend the Meltdown that is correct but the kids playing in Q Challenge pay as well ,that is not free.Mind you the top players in Quebec and Atlantic Canada will be at the Q event but there will be some good players at the Meltdown it is a very good tournament with a few good teams from the US , if you were to look at the kids attending the Q event lots of them have played in the Meltdown in previous years.

I'm not sure why the need for capitalizing your statement. My post clearly states the V Red program is by invite only , and what hockey do you not have to pay to play. I'm not familiar with any free hockey at this level.

Well over 80% of the NB u16 team and a large percentage of team NS , PEI and NFLD would be at the Meltdown if not for the Q cup , as well there are a number of midget AAA participants 96 and older that will be there as injury really isn't a concern at the meltdown. But that is just based on my neck of the woods.

There's 8 rounds available for '97 borns and the rest for '96 borns. The number of 20 year olds available now isn't going to affect the amount of '96 borns now. There's absolutely no link there at all...

Just so you know 97's can only be drafted in first 8 rounds but 96's can be drafted in any round.....96's that teams feel will play for them right away will be drafyed in first 8 rounds
I understand the process pretty well actually, I never said '96 borns couldn't be drafted in the first 8 rounds... But why your trying to say more 17 year olds will be drafted this year then any normal year makes no sense. You're trying to tie it to what you call "the shortage of good 20 year olds" but that's just 3 roster spots... You're not going to draft extra 17 year olds because you're uncertain of your overage situation lol there isn't 1 17 year old available who will report that isn't already drafted that can step into the role typically held by one of your overagers. Long story but no, the Q is letting him play as a Canadian.. It was that or lose him to the OHL because they were gunna do it.

It'll be interesting to see how that plays out in the future, IIHF wise. I wonder if he'll represent Netherlands, that'd be pretty badass

Last year, at Combine, it was 10$/day (2 exhibit games x 2 days, 4 teams, '96 with some '95) to enter. I saw nice talents, some under rated. Scouts, all in the end zone, weren't paying any attention to games. They were to busy chatting together.

I think I'll go at Gatorade, but at what price?

A Tim Horton's coffee and a knock on the door where the Zamboni driver sits
