Haha this is enough to rip on Cherry around here? The way he angers you all may be part of the reason I enjoy his ramblings.

I had the same problem, and ended up cutting my hair.

I HAVE SOMETHING HOCKEY-RELATED IN COMMON WITH OVECHKIN

But yeah, no way anybody who's not in the org deserves any credit at all for the turnaround. Hard to find reasons why anybody would say otherwise.

People getting upset at Cherry makes what he says a lot funnier. Going to be a sad day when he's off the air.

"oh no he made fun of russians/europeans/americans"
"oh no he complimented canadians"
"oh no canadian hockey superiority"

The fact that these whines still come up only means Don is still effective at what he does

I suppose I could see why a senile old coot like Cherry would get confused here. I mean, Milbury has certainly helped to turn around a lot of teams in the NHL (just none of the ones he was actually working for).

I think more than anything Oates is letting Ovy be OvY again. He seems to be shooting and driving the net more.

I've alway thought that AO was fine but its whats around him that needs fixing. Don't try to make him pass more or become better defensively. Just let him be him because the good will out weigh the bad.

Hey all you kids out there . . .

Don Cherry is great, so he is a little brash but he is the face of hockey, I don't know what I will do when he is gone, plus Ron McLean and him have that special bond where Ron gets in the last word and makes fun of him without Don even knowing.

Lets go . . .

Yeah, it's really sad.

The guy is obviously getting older, and some things he says are ridiculous, but A LOT of what he says is completely correct. Take what he says with a grain of salt, don't believe it if you don't want, but what's the point in ripping on him? He IS hockey, one of the best personalities in the game. You can be sure hockey will be more boring once he's gone.

what is it about hockey fans that hate the outspoken guy? no wonder most hockey players are robots, anyone who voices an opinion gets raked over the coals

Don't care about Cherry one way or the other, but besides OV himself, Oates gets sole credit for OV's turnaround.

You know, I was going to make a long post about his xenophobic garbage and the way he can't pronounce anything or whatever, but then I took a breath and realized this:

If you like the guy, cool. All the power to you - I'm not going to change your mind, nor would I attempt to. It's never "wrong" to have an opinion. I'm glad you find something positive about the guy. (no sarcasm at all.)

I know the above goes against all rules of "forums" but I'm not gonna bash anybody for having an opinion.

3 coaches had Orr as a Bruin, 2 won Stanley Cups with him. You'd think Don would stop talking about his Bruins days.

Thanks man, I have just been a fan since rock em' sock em' 1, and as a Bruins fan he is sort of on my side.

I can see how people can not like the guy, with his hatred towards Europeans and his poor grammar.

Sure people don't like him, but people don't like a lot of things, and if as humans we can realize people enjoy different things then maybe we can all get along better then we do at the moment.

Cheers

Yes, he hates cheap shots. Except when it's one of his guys doing it then it's boys will be boys. Domi cheapshots Niedermayer and gets defended by Cherry but if it was someone else...

Cherry is a gosh darned clown and some people like clowns.

Yes, thank you Mike Milbury for all the goals you scored for the Caps. Oh wait.
For all the time and effort you put into coaching the Caps, then. Oh wait.

The haircut is the best part. It was mentioned about a month ago on the NHL network and Ovie said the longer style was hard to get his helmet over.
Meh. Cherry's just saying Milbury's criticisms were right. Oates turned Ovechkin around by telling him to focus on hockey again, rather than on the media and his celebrity persona.

Of all the men on television Cherry is the most intelligent about hockey. Say what you want about his nationalism and old-time hockey love, but when it comes to analyzing plays no one else on TV approaches him.

The only exception is when Boudreau was on NBC last year. You could tell he saw the game at another level.

You say outspoken, I say an ignorant, moronic and xenophobic homer. If he wasn't an employee of a publicly owned station I'd care much less but as it is he is an embarrassment. Entertaining? Sure he is, but so is Maury Povich occasionally and I'd never admit to watching him.

I am all for outspoken though, just not the same "outspoken" tripe every weekend. He panders to the lowest common denominator and it has worked wonders for him. Can't knock that I guess. A hockey televangelist. Worship me!

I guess it depends on your level of understanding. His weekly segment on telling kids not to try and block a shot with your stick is VERY insightful. You know kids, once in a while you throw the goalie off. Look!!!! I was right, I told you so!! Don't worry, I'll remind you again when I find another highlight that tells you how much I know!
