It's not about proving it's about improving.

It wouldn't ruin him, ruining him would be to bench him, move him all around the line-up, use him like a platoon hitter hitting here or there. Sending him down to play every day and work in peace and quiet is a good thing.

Sending guys down like this is a very delicate process. It could very well ruin him.

Another reason you move Barney at the deadline this year if you can get a good prospect

Victorino came to mind when I read that, minus the position difference.

Im a believer of being strong up the middle but Barney is 27 and in three years when most of the prospects are expected to debut will make him 30. Might as well trade for futures now, picks and/or prospects while he has his most valuable years left.

Hawk has lost his might. Time to retire old guy. Now the guy I grew up loving in the 90s.

Sox games are already boring to watch. Hawk makes it almost unbearable. Steve Stone is great though

I don't see anything wrong with Hawks opinion outside of his temper showing , etc

I believe Scouts/Human evaluation is still best way to build a baseball team not moneyball

I've watched so little at this point it's not even funny. Not even because they're bad, even if they were at .500 I feel like I wouldn't have had the time to watch much of these games with all the hockey I've been watching this year with CI.

Tee Dubya Tee Dubya - Sabremetrics goes way beyond Moneyball. It's a great tool to use along with scouts and an intergral part of baseball now.

Simple fact is that Sabremetrics people want to disregard to hold fashioned scout viewpoint ,, That is issue I have

I prefer human eyes not stats to judge a prospect

Except no team just uses the eye test anymore. The cubs under Hendry were famous for their contempt of advanced metrics and they suffered for it. Sabre metrics are just more information. Hawk isn't just saying he prefers the eye test, he's saying he doesn't even want the information. He's on the wrong side of history. It's like a blackjack player playing against the odds

Well its not hard to understand why Hawk is against it given his era/age

And I would use Oakland as example on other end of spectrum to your example ,, Beane disregards most scout information and he has won nothing (Most overated GM in baseball IMO)

One of the first things Theo did when he got to the Cubs was drastically overhaul and expand the scouting staff...

When you solely trust the eye test, you have a guy like Courtney Hawkins floundering at a level he doesn't belong at.

Beane more often than not creates competitive clubs on a shoestring budget. That's the victory in what he's done so far.
