Mmmm. The tears of the Jets fans are extra deliciously salty tonight.

I wonder how good a captain Ryan Callahan would be if he played behind sub-.900sv% for two months?

I will say that Eric had a good game tonight. Didn't see any "******** Staal" moments.

I only wish we could see this Staal more often.

The point is, he'd still play his butt off every shift. Eric Staal does not do that, even on a good day.

You seem to have this notion that leadership doesn't really exist. I assure you, it does exist and in the big picture this team is lacking it.

So what you're saying is that if the Rangers had Ellis/Peters in net for the past two months, they would have made the playoffs because of Ryan Callahan's leadership?

I think that having a guy around like him certainly wouldn't hurt our chances.

No need to be angry about the loss. We screwed over the Jets. That's reason enough to celebrate.

he was alright... definitely not NHL ready. he was probably the slowest skater on the ice. He was weak with the puck for the most part. I will say that he didn't look lost and I feel like with a few more years of development, he could possibly make it.

Sorry, but that's the second game in a row where the Canes blow the lead late after playing with fire the entire third period.

I believe they were outshot 16-2in the third? Just embarrassing.

The team with nothing to play for got dominated by the team trying to clinch a playoff spot? What an embarrassment.

It was an embarrassment, not because the Rangers dominated, but because the Canes did nothing to fight back. They simply rolled over.

Tlusty scored on the first shot of the period, less than a minute in. The next Canes shot? 18:58 into 3rd, after the Rangers tied it.

What did the Canes do in the 18 minutes between shots? Blueline and dump. Completely understandable given they were down to 5 defensemen, but still an embarrassment to watch. No offensive pressure the entire period.

Yeah, the Rangers were fighting for the playoffs, but they weren't fighting the Canes. The Canes had given in, simply waiting out the game and waiting for the Rangers to tie it.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Canes had less than 10 shots in the 2nd and 3rd combined. Playoffs or not, have some pride in your play.

Best faceoff team in the league or best faceoff team ever?
Yeah, and Justin Peters' save percentage for the season is .905, by rank meaning he is in the top half of backup goalies in the whole league.

Right?

Having two guys with J. Staal defeats the purpose of having the initial, doesn't it? I was hoping to see something akin to...

There's no official rule about the use of first initials, so my hunch is the equipment staff wanted to do whatever would be easiest to do, especially given it was the last home game and next to last game of the season. FWIW the 'Canes have always been a little weird with first initial use. For instance in 2005-2006 we had two Wards and two Adams. Both Cam and Aaron were just "WARD," Kevyn Adams was "ADAMS" and Craig Adams was "C. ADAMS." I can understand with the two Wards since one was a goalie (and the backup at that) and the other was a defenseman, but considering Kevyn and Craig were both forwards who played on the same line, I'm a little surprised it wasn't "K. ADAMS" and "C. ADAMS."

Right?
He's mocking the guy who said they have the worst face off team in the league because they had a ****** statistical game and ignored that they are average for the season.

I for one had a tough time telling the difference between Jordan and Jared last night at the game since they both had J. Staal on their jersey. Thanks god they didn't just have "Staal" for all 3 or it would have been impossible.

I only watched about 1 period, but it sounded like, according to Tripp, that Jared was the best Checkers callup the Canes have seen all year!

He did his job, stayed within his capabilities and didn't really look out of place. Not a skilled guy, but worked hard, was usually in the right spot and played pretty well along the boards. Hard to draw any conclusions from 1 game, but if he plays like that consistently, he might be a viable 4th liner some day.

At times, it did show the potential a line Ruutu, J. Staal, and another big body could have. If the Canes could get another skilled guy who was physical and put him on that line, it could be a really tough line for opposing teams to play against.

Tlusty-Staal-Semin: High Scoring, good all around line
Ruutu-J. Staal - ????: Strong, Physical, 2nd line that wears the other team down

Derek Stepan used to be the slowest guy on the ice. That's something that guys can really improve at.
